hi guys , I want to share a quick experience of mine , I've been struggling with my over-consumption of content , but lately I've been able to solve , this is how I did it : 1. ask the following questions to find relevant resources : - does this answer a question I've asked ? (most content get shoved in your face without asking) - does this solve an important, frequent, or urgent problem ? (journal to figure out what problems you have first) - is this on my level (if it's too obvious or too advanced then it's not) 2. reduce the personal/external content ratio : - your own thoughts will always be more relevant than content from elsewhere - quality deep learning on a few external resources is much better than quantity 3. organize what you consumed by it's future use : - rank it by how soon you will use it , and group it by the future situation you will need it in
I had a discussion with another guy from the community , and we seem to disagree on whether note taking systems are even that useful for someone who just wants to get new ideas I know content creators need to consume a lot of information which requires a system to capture , and process information but to me personally I think that causes a huge delay between consuming information and taking action on it
I have this concept I call "harsh funneling" , where you basically need to become more ruthless and brave to be able to say "no" to a lot of information you encounter (even if the information is a 8/10 or a 9/10) , you only absorb the 9.5 or 10/10 information for example I ask : "will I use this information to immediately solve an important problem ?" but I want to know your opinion about how do you do that , what criteria do you consider to filter information ? and how do you deal with FOMO in that situation ?
I would say there is a sweet spot between JIT and JIC you can see this idea applied in Japanese manufacturing the car parts are manufactured "just in case" someone asks for a car , and they assemble them "just in time" of the order but for some reason, a lot of people don't do the same with knowledge a group of people would go to the extreme of JIC , and build stuff like zettelkasten systems and keep collecting too many articles and books ... and another group would go to the other extreme and become too reactive , they would only learn when facing a test or a serious problem
