Expert View: Arc Flash Risk and Safe Isc Testing
Today, I witnessed an arc flash while a worker was attempting to measure the Isc of a PV string using a DMM. It was a horrific sight seeing. I would like to know, from an expert's perspective, what the safe procedure is for measuring the Isc on a PV string with a rated voltage of 1,369.42 VDC.

To give you more context, we are currently in the construction phase, and the string being measured was not connected yet to the inverter. The inverter is not yet commissioned.

@Alexandru Minzat Thank you very much for sharing your developed field solution. I would recommend using something similar if it is available in our local market. I hope this project proceeds safely! there is a lot to learn, and the local workforce will, unfortunately, get to know the hard way the difference between a qualified electrician and a basic PVtechnician
Intro_Warda
Hello everyone! This is Warda, and I'm genuinely excited to join this group. I'm a Solar Energy Engineer whose background is pretty wide-ranging. I’ve handled everything from the initial small-scale concepts right through to megawatt-scale design work, and now I'm focused on getting those plans built right on the ground. Currently, I'm working on a 60 MW AC project as QA/QC Supervisor. I'm very much an early bird, my goal here is to learn more about the failures,to know exactly what breaks, how it breaks, and how to stop it from ever happening again.

@Călin Sas Hello, and thanks ! I couldn't agree more. You've hit on exactly why I'm in the thick of things. To me, QA/QC Supervision often feels less like engineering and more like being a border patrol agent in a permanent CONFLICT with the Construction team! - Construction's says "Get it done fast, it'll be fine, whatever it takes!" - We say, " Make sure 'whatever it takes' is exactly what the spec sheet says it takes, and also, we need a signature on that form... from last week."

I am a solar energy engineer and I want to learn about business building blocks so that I open up a business of my own.
