The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys
๐ Grab it on Amazonย This is a well-researched, historical novel. Written for Young Adult, it's a great read for all of us. I read it for Charlene's local book club and loved it! The characters feel real, the historical events are accurate, and honestly, there is so little documented narratives about the Franco rule in Spain that it was quite eye-opening. Sepetys includes links to her site for historical documents, media, and more. Jenny K. says: I can tell a book will be good when I lose track of time while reading itโor savor each page before turning to the next. I didnโt speed read one portion of this historic tale. The author pinned me to the setting and revealed the characters in such a way that drew my interest and almost made them real. I knew nothing about Spainโs civil war or Francoโs reign, but my worries were unfoundedโthe story gripped me from page one. Daniel, a tall Texan visiting Spain with his oil-tycoon father and Spanish-heritage mother, meets Ana, a hotel maid. As their connection deepens, youโll be pulled into a gripping, emotional, and cultural journey. This is by far the best book Iโve read in over a year. If you enjoy historical fiction, The Fountains of Silence is a must-read.
