Skatenance reminder
It's the end of the month. This is your reminder to get your wheels off and clean your skates!

@Pat Finley I use reds bearings and add some speed lube, then replace them when they don't work anymore. I used to use bones swiss on my inline skates and clean them, but having good enough bearings in all the wheels seems to be the easiest for me to swap out as needed.
Knee and elbow pads
What brand of pads are you wearing these days? What do you like/dislike about the ones you’re using? I have great wrist guards, but I’ve only been using volleyball knee pads and no elbow pads. However, when I go to skate camp next weekend full pads are required. I’ve bought four different sets of pads from amazon and none of the knee pads fit. They’re either too bulky or too small. For now, I’m wearing elbow pads on my knees (!) and a different set of elbow pads on my elbows. I’m about 5’ and 105 pounds, so would be especially interested in what those on the smaller side have to share. Thanks!

I'm using TSG Force V A knee pads they are great, but pretty bulky but great when you fall https://www.derbywarehouse.com/descpage-FORCEVA.html I use 187 killer pads for elbow, but not very often. I also have a set of mt. bike elbow pads that have a hard plastic by Kali that I use more often since it's easier to move my arms.

I should say I use these at the skate park. I generally don't use pads for dance skating unless I'm trying something new. I have the powerslide slip on knee pads for this reason. @Jay Griffin , if you're at skate camp this weekend I can show you.
🎉 New Conversation Tab: Swap & Shop 🛼🔥
What's up SK8 Fam! I’m excited to introduce a brand-new category inside our community: Swap & Shop. This is your space to buy, sell, trade, or give away skate gear you no longer need and to help other skaters level up affordably! If you’ve got old parts, gently used skates, or a custom refurbish projects (like Hydes) you want to pass along, this is the spot. Here’s how Swap & Shop works: ✅ Personal skate gear only (parts, skates, accessories, etc.) ✅ You can sell, swap, or even give away gear if you want! ✅ Please include clear pictures, sizes, condition, and price (or note if it’s free) Important: What’s not allowed: 🚫 No business solicitations (services, classes, coaching, etc.) 🚫 No big brand advertising or affiliate promotions 🚫 No mass-produced product listings — keep it skater-to-skater We want to keep this space friendly, helpful, and community-driven, not salesy. 🙌🏽 Think of it like a neighborhood skate shop bulletin board, not a business marketplace. [Check it out here!]

A few years ago when my son was in kindergarten he had a 100 day project where he needed to bring in 100 of something and he easily brought in 100 wheels, mostly roller skate wheels, some inline, and some skateboard. So yes, this is a great idea! Even with this, I spent a great deal of time looking for more wheels. I'm looking for Spitfire x Atlantic drift 56mm 90a wheels if anyone has some 🤣
Slades (shoes with detachable skates)
Anyone interested in purchasing an essentially brand new set of Slades? I bought these on an impulse but after trying them on and skating very briefly in my condo, I decided (a) they're too big for me and (b) I prefer my regular skates. The ones I bought are black, EU size 39, which equates to US men's 7, women's 8.5. List price is $185, but I'd be happy to sell them for $125 plus shipping. I'll throw in the buddy bag (carrying case for the wheels) for free ($27 value). Picture of my Slades (still in box) below. I have two pairs of flaneurz, and I primarily use them for skating where you migh not expect to skate, like when there's no one at the office, or in the airport. They are great for skating around a city. There isn't a lot of ankle support, I've tried modifying them for park, that is something I do not recommend. I had high hopes to be able to slap on the wheels and jump into a park between meetings or to keep in the car when I'm on the road. They would be great for anyone going to a university. You should probably be a fairly strong skater though.
Tap Dancing on Wheels!?
Hey friends! I’ve been thinking about how tempting it is to try tap dancing in my skates but I’ve never heard of or seen anyone doing it. So I had myself a little Google and whoa, there’s so much fun stuff out there! How did I never see Fred and Ginger on wheels before? 🤯🤩 https://youtu.be/rcRwvVg68FM

I love this!! All I want is a smooth skate surface about this size to skate around on all day long! Maybe with a little shade, with maybe a skate park to the side... oh wait I might be thinking of Venice beach.

I’m somewhere between a dance skater and a park skater. I skated with my parents and brother growing up, and I’m growing my kids into skaters as well.
