Shines vs. Partnerwork
I recently had a student tell me, “I don’t really see the point of doing shines. I just want to learn partnerwork—it's not like I’ll actually use shines when I’m social dancing, so why bother?” I have plenty of thoughts on this, but I’d love to hear yours first. Do you enjoy shines, partnerwork, or both? And do you think shines are important to practice? Let's discuss 🎙️💭

I come from a ballroom background and didn't start learning shines until I began training exclusively in salsa. It was really intimidating at first, but it's fun when it's you vs you. In partnership work, it can feel like you're juggling multiple things at once and requires more mental bandwidth when you're still learning.
