JUMPING!!! What can you do?
@Kelly Soirefman I have two videos I'll add here that will help you in two ways. One will help you "in the moment" with your own dog or someone else's dog. It explains what to do when you can't prevent the jumping. The second video tells you how to help train your dog not to jump and increase your dog's self-control. Here are a few more notes on jumping: 🐕 Prevention is key because anytime the behavior is repeated, it is reinforced and becomes harder to change. Jumping as a greeting can become automatic and you know from your own habits, that that is a stronger neuological path that takes time to change. So prevent and avoid whenever you can. 🐕 When you come home or when your dog might jump, have your hands free and have something handy for use to prevent jumping, like treats or a toy. So put the bags down and make a second trip once your dog has greeted you and is calm. 🐕 How can you prevent jumping? For yourself, enter the room with treats or a toy to toss and then when your dog starts to come back to you, you can look them in the eye and ask for an alternative behavior like a sit or throw the toy again. 🐕 If it happens when you get home and enter the house, you can keep your dog in a crate or behind a gate to prevent jumping. 🐕 If you are concerned about friends and family, you can use a leash and/or again, a crate or a gate to keep your dog from jumping.

We share our home with two sweet Havanese brothers who are now 5 years old. They are ALMOST perfect.
