Unsolicited Career Advice
If there’s one wisdom nugget, I’ve continually unearthed and shared with my youngest son about the modern workplace and the preparation one must pursue to enter it, it is this: "AVOID IT." We live in a time when AI-related mechanisms can perform most ‘jobs’ faster and tirelessly (without complaint or the need for traditional compensation). This is an HR fantasy... until they, too, fall subject to replacement. Just as a self-checkout aisle eliminates ten employees, ChatGPT or Claude can eliminate the headcount of smaller firms' entire communications and marketing staff. Looking toward the future (while referencing the past), Darwin was correct when he postulated that only the most adaptable (fittest) of species survive to pass on their coded secrets. My career advice is always appended with: “Find a problem within an industry that fascinates you and work out a definitive solution that brings the most relief to those experiencing it. Do that, and you’ll have a business model that will bring you customers and clients for as long as the market can sustain it.” P.S. Dwight's advice is also sound. 😉
