Andy Squyres is Joining Us for a Flock | Creators Workshop!
If you’re a Christian creative looking to make art that truly resonates—this is a workshop you don’t want to miss. Andy Squyres is a songwriter and storyteller known for his raw, poetic lyrics and unfiltered honesty in music. His work captures the tension between faith, struggle, and beauty—something every artist wrestles with in their creative process. In this workshop, we’ll dive into: 🔹 The Role of Mystery in Art—Why not everything should be immediately clear. 🔹 Entertainers vs. Mystifiers—How this distinction shapes worship leaders, creatives, and content creators. 🔹 Does the Church Have Space for Disruptive Art?—If so, how do we cultivate it? 🔹 Balancing Entertainment & Challenge as an Artist—Looking at artists like Dylan & Kendrick, and what that means for working with churches. 🔹 The Prophetic Vocation of the Audience—How creatives play a role in shaping faith and culture. At the end, there will be a LIVE Q&A where you can ask Andy your questions and get direct insight into the creative and spiritual challenges you face. 🚀 Want in? Join Flock | Creators for FREE today! I like this role of mystery in art. Just like Jesus spoke in parables to hide (and reveal) attributes of the Kingdom, it was not immediately clear to even the disciples who were with him 24/7. Looking forward to this workshop.
Am I getting ahead of myself? You ever go through this?
I've been working on an anthology of my instrumental music (five volumes) since 2017. I successfully released the first volume, INTENSIFY, in 2018 accompanied by a fully staged movement concert (which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/eCat2j59UEM?si=HjcixoCcELp_xfkI ). I've been (slowly) working on Volume 2, BRIGHTEN since then, but have only 5 of 12 songs from that volume released. (This style: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/38KU4GY9b2rzodCiyBCds7?si=f04c4f670d1f4e74 ) However, my creative mind wants to "jump ahead" (and change up the soundscape--avoid boredom?) and start finalizing some of the work from Volume 4, Enliven--my jazz/big band/swing/Latin volume. (songs like this: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/o3erezre99ylazs4n0ec3/SONGO-2017-REMIX-9-16-17.mp3?rlkey=t6fuvlregozfis01up5y46so0&dl=0 ) Nevermind volume 3, "Classify"--think opening theme to Downton Abbey, apparently. (A sample from that: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/wfxt1m40a7folemb8tcvs/01-Soliloquy-Orchestra.mp3?rlkey=sb9h2e7qwr86mq0qdde0m0vj2&dl=0 ) But I feel like if I "jump around" I won't "finish" what I started, and I'll lose the snowball effect of completion to roll into the next volume, especially since my time to freely work on any of this currently feels so restricted--and I'm working on multiple client projects, which uses a lot of my creative energy, or just energy in general. You ever feel like this with your projects? How do you navigate this as well as have discipline to stay the course, whatever decision you make? Thoughts? (TIA)

@Ashley Sasson I would love to see it in person again too! However, that production of “Intensify“ was a one time engagement over a weekend in Baton Rouge back in 2018. The next similar style production we would like to do would be for volume two, “Brighton“. But we are not sure when we are going to do that. We had started preplanning in 2019 before Covid hit. But then everything went… Well, the way it did. And we have not revisited it yet.
The weirdest thing I learned in Marching Band… 🎶🤓
Did you know it’s actually easier to tune 200 piccolos than just 2? Crazy, right? It’s because of frequency cancelation when more instruments are playing the same pitch, inconsistencies blend together, and the dominant frequency stands out. The sound becomes fuller, more in tune, and more powerful. 🤯 Yes, this has a ton of practical uses like getting a cleaner vocal mix, cutting live feedback, and dialing in your audio production but I love this as an analogy for community. 🪈 A group of Christian creatives across different disciplines, at different stages, even continents! All moving together with one purpose: to steward our craft and character toward curating a culture for the Kingdom. So let’s take a second to do just that. Drop two things below ✌️ 🖼️Craft: What’s one resource (book, tool, course, video, hack) that has helped you in your creative work? Whether it’s business, content creation, songwriting, painting, podcasting, YouTube scripts, thumbnail design — anything that has leveled you up. 📖Character: What’s one thing the Lord is teaching you right now? Share a scripture or resource that’s been shaping your heart. Let’s learn from one another, grow together, and keep running the race. Drop yours below! 👇

CRAFT: The Dream Manager by Matthew Kelly CHARACTER: Pray More—combination of a t-shirt I was sent gratis by my boy Dewayne Savage at Christian Art Appearal and a recent song a client hied me to produce called “Pray”. Philippians 4:6 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”

LIE: That because my calling and equipping (making music) are “fun”, that I’m not doing “real” kingdom work (like stopping human trafficking). TRUTH: Numbers 12:3 - “ Moses was the most humble person in all the world” — wrote Moses… Which seems arrogant to make such a claim, but! He wrote it because God told him to write it! And if he did not write it, that would be more arrogant, as if to say, he knew better than God! So I humbly accept my station as you have designed it for me and me for it. ALSO… Romans 9:21 - “Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?” —let Him shape me as He will! AND… Romans 1:17 - “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” - I am making things by which they can hear, that they might gain faith! AND… 1 Chronicles 25:6-7 - “6 All these men were under the supervision of their father for the music of the temple of the Lord, with cymbals, lyres and harps, for the ministry at the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman were under the supervision of the king. 7 Along with their relatives—all of them trained and skilled in music for the Lord—they numbered 288.” —trained and SKILLED in music for the Lord! This is my post in the battle for the Kingdom.
INTRODUCTION
Hello fellow Christian Creatives. My name is Justin Rayna. I am a composer/producer of all genres, but I specialize in theatrical music of various sorts. I love music, tumbling, acrobatics, theatre, and soccer (all with my coffee, of course). I hope to accomplish passive income status (licensing, sync, royalties, etc.) with my craft because it will allow me to more freely choose how I allocate my time to further create for the Kingdom as well as increase my family time. Here's my workspace... it's a little messy, but I think that's just my creative process showing!

I’m an award-winning composer/producer. I write in many genres, but specialize in music with a theatrical sense, music to “see” as much as hear.
