EP: 17 BIG RUN WEEKEND. Dropping Bombs?
Ok ok ok I hope you all got at your "turkey trots" out of your systems last week. lol and are ready to Go big again for episode 17 of Eat Cake Run Club Big Run Weekend. Pro tip, the bigger miles the more X-mas cookies and Nog one can consume guilt free.. Just saying. Our current 20 mile "bomb 💣💥streak is @ 7 weeks this weekend... the old record is still standing at 8 weeks... Do we have what it takes to keep tracking that old record down.... "we shall see"... The holiday season is always a busy one, life and activities become very time consuming and it easy to just say we will get back to it again after the new year.... But that is where BRW comes in. Remember that BRW is not about miles, or pace it is about getting out and doing something hard, sometimes that hard is just getting in a run. But you will never regret getting it in. I promise. Let's have a BIG WEEKEND and be sure to share it with this group. No matter the run if you did it, it makes us all encouraged and better. You all are amazing humans and I say this kindly and with full honesty, there is amazing accomplishments and achievements this group has had..... However.... I know for a fact we are still just getting started and that we all can level it up notch. We all have more to give. I promise that too. LFG. V

To prevent further injury, I’m going with the training plan. That says I owe 9 miles on Saturday. I’m feeling the pain and fatigue right now, so I need a good recovery day tomorrow.
Winter Running tips... Add your recommendation...
❄️ Winter Running Tips (ECRC Edition) ❄️ ***add the best tip you have for "winter running in your current geological location. 1. Dress in layers…Because nothing humbles you faster than starting a run freezing, and finishing it looking like a sweaty onion with clothing tied around every limb. 2. Warm up inside, do some high knees in your kitchen. Do some butt kicks in your hallway. Bonus points if your family watches you and questions every life decision you’ve ever made. 3. Accept that you will slip on ice.Just call it “dynamic balance training” and pretend it was intentional. Olympic-level agility, baby. 4. Don’t overdress, You may start the run feeling like you’re entering Antarctica, but 10 minutes later you’ll swear someone put you in a sauna with a windbreaker on. 5. Protect your face.Wind chill will slap you harder than your alarm clock at 5AM. Buffs, balaclavas, or your hand pretending to be a shield — use something. 6. Accept the snot rocket.Winter running is basically a faucet you can’t turn off. Do it discreetly… and away from the wind. (Trust me.) 7. Keep your water warm.Because nothing says “athlete” like trying to drink your hydration only to discover it’s turned into a slushy.

Bring chap stick. Cold + wind = chapped lips. Chapped lips sucks and your mouth could end up looking like a baboons butt. We don’t want that
Ultra Running, Anyone?
What is going on everyone. I apologize for the long absence. I’ve been dealing with an injury and was taking all necessary precautions to make sure that I was feeling back to 100%. I did a thing today. I signed up for my first ultra. That being said. Anyone have any tips or stories that they would like to share? I’d love to hear them. Thanks

@Peg Lawler that’s an amazing story. And you’re a savage for running that race even though you were super sick. Love to see and hear about people doing that

@Sandra Brown thanks for the awesome advice. Definitely going to have to work on that fueling bit.

It has been a min but........ we are back with one of my favorite things here on ECRC. MONDAY CONVERSATION.... So this weekend I had a very cool experience.... I encounter a couple moose that were hanging out on the trails in my neighborhood. which made me think.. What is the coolest or maybe weirdest things you have all seen on a run.... May be a rare wild animal, or car accident... (hopefully not cause by you) but what is it.... what is the coolest or weirdest thing you have seen or encountered on a run.?

@Scott Birdsall I love it. Scares the hell out of me, sure. But I’ve always loved wild animals. I love the woods. There is beauty in everything, even the possums

@Scott Birdsall I am sure. They’re beautiful little animals, but I’m sure I’d go into cardiac arrest if I stumbled across one.
ILLUMINATION?.... No not illuminati
For todays "Tech Tuesday" topic off discussion.... what is the best light set up? As the days get darker earlier and stay that way longer, what is your GO TO light or reflective set up / gear for the Early morning or late evening runs?

I have this random headlamp that I found at work. Apparently it’s for medical stuff. Works amazing.

@Vincent McGee the item name on the tag said “headlamp, medical”. I work in logistics with aircraft bro. Why we would have a medical headlamp is beyond my comprehension.
