Even if others see it as a mask, we know it's a step forward towards making useful things with a new identity!
E-Books vs. Paper for Synthesis
So up until now, I've found paperback books to be the best. I tend to be pretty tactile and it's nice how quickly you can flip through something. But I have found one major flaw: ⚠️ Sometimes I just want to read a book I discover 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 (to dive straight in) and Amazon does 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝘁 (that I know of) 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝟯𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀. It just seems like a 𝗵𝘂𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱-𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀, to be able to access (immediately) some of the most valuable recourses: 📖 Books. Now for this purpose, paperbacks 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 easier. My experience thus far is that E-readers (like kindle, etc.) seem to make more sense for books being used as novels, or something practically read for pleasure rather than reference material (𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘺𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦) Of course we can capture information as taught in #Build an information capture system which theoretically makes it easier to come back to the same part again and again (albeit at the cost of screen real estate). So for any of you who have more experience with E-Readers: 1. Do you think E-Readers are worth it compared to paperback? 2. Any tips on how to use them (over paperback) for study & synthesis?

@Griffin A. Hamilton 1. No one can decide on that but yourself! You can do extremely well with either type. Given your focus on online note taking, your ability to use a specific E-Reader as part of your daily life could fit into your use of tech. There are many to choose from these days and the specific E-Reader device that would be perfect for you may or many not exist already! Have you tried any of them? 2. Highlighting can be transferred into your note and writing apps through Readwise! That's a big benefit. As for immediate access to books, you could look into how @Tintin Smith listens to audiobooks first.

@Gabriela Toderean Research like this is always tricky to interpret. It's not simply about being "surrounded" by physical books, they are a just a circumstance of easy access to reading. I would bet that all those books belong to the child's parents and guess what? If the parents read, they will help the child with it. So the real method here might be "have someone who you show you good works and help reading them early on" instead of just having books around you. I'm pretty sure plenty of people buy books for the cover or for the promise they contain and promote, only to end up having them on the shelf indeed but never get to many of them (myself included!). These people probably still read more than those who aren't interested in getting the books in the first place though! It's not about having "80 books libraries" (I can imagine articles being made about "the best 80 books you need to have to improve your child's literacy" - and it would sell like crazy), it's about having someone near you who can handle that much literacy and expose you to it. Of course there's some combined effects and more detailed explanations, just raising the issue here.
Experts in Permaculture / Physical Communities / Homesteading / Related Real-Estate / Prepping?
I'm curious if anyone here has these sorts of interests. I've noticed that with increasing economic uncertainty, more and more people are into these sorts of things. One individual who comes to mind is Peak Prosperity on Youtube, who I have heard discuss sustainable farming practices that do not deplete the soil and also diversifying / preparing assets for times of uncertainty, instability, and/or collapse, with without going full doomsday prepper (although I don't have a problem with that, either). I'm not directly committed to this one exact sort of thing, but I've gotten interested in the idea of collecting together A LOT of different wise sorts of related ideas, and combining them together into consumable cultural content & resource-organization of super-value via capitalizing on synergies in a way that I don't actually believe been done before. I kind of see the LONG RUN of where this could be going, and how it could be something huge, but it would be nice to know if there are any others in this community who resonate with these ideas. A buddy of mine just called me and was discussing the real estate end of things, like getting people to group buy plots of land and build communities on them. I think there are huge opportunities to add value in this sort of way, by bringing together large like-minded groups of people, as well as large numbers of experts -------- but again, getting far beyond the mere idea of just this one sort of thing --------- because I see the HIGHEST amounts of value coming from synergizing everything. Feel free to network with me if you are interested. No promises at this time, but you know... I feel like it's helpful to have a little more going for ourselves in terms of physical assets, physical community, and physical resiliance than making our entire brands dependent upon the flow of the internet. I hardly know what to do about all of this yet-- which is partially why I'm asking around-- but often I have a tendency to see really big possibilities (and make accurate bets on them) before they materialize.

"I feel like it's helpful to have a little more going for ourselves in terms of physical assets, physical community, and physical resiliance than making our entire brands dependent upon the flow of the internet." Really agree with this! I've had similar thoughts about vulnerabilities and limitations related to the internet, however doing this at a time of fears or practices of doomsday "acceleration" could attract the wrong crowd. The models I'd look into for something like this would be the historic monastic communities that created the type of social order we now know. It seems like those can be too many elements and it takes some kind of sacrifice, not just being a self-made hero/survivor!

@Owen Sheasby There's quite a few of these "gore carnivores" and I've realized that people who feel disgusted by them and don't eat anywhere near it still follow them because it's so extreme. I'm not expecting the most evidence-based nutrition tips from them. So, please go into that because I'm pretty sure some debunking is in order... Maybe they should eat brains to get smarter too! Accountability meeting recordings and meeting graphs
Hope you didn’t mind me recording. These videos are UNLISTED. No one can see them unless they are in this group Sunday 16th October 2022 (Joel explains his business and Minecraft discussion lol)- https://youtu.be/RqHi-r9vDEE Sunday 30th October 2022- building a second brain. https://youtu.be/iEAvKlDeI_4 Sunday 6th November 2022 fasting, dopamine detox, silent retreats: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rVXba6tGHI Meeting Graphs Arrow indicates direct question. A cross is a contribution. The graphs show who talks the most, asks the most questions and who is listening on the sidelines. They are a mess I know lol. I wonder if you will find them at all interesting/ valuable.
