Feel free to join my 30-day Twitter challenge
Synthesizers! Just watched this video by David Perell and Matthew Kobach on how to use Twitter and build an audience and test (synthesized) ideas. David challenged everyone who wants to start Twitter to experiment Tweeting for 30 days - and see what happens. So, challenged accepted! Why I'm doing it? - To gather feedback on my ideas - To test what Tweets (formats) are working - To start building the habit - To see if the platform is a great place to connect with like-minded people So, for the entire month of May - I will send out a Tweet every day. Anyone cares to join? If yes, reply "Challenge Accepted!" - and let's start following each other so we hold each other accountable :) (You can find me here) PS. You can find my notes here so you don’t have to watch the entire thing: https://jordyvanbennekom.notion.site/How-to-Crush-it-on-Twitter-David-Perell-and-Matthew-Kobach-Workshop-YouTube-16d090502b2a47428af9ebcd17efbf24

Does Substack Notes Make Substack the Perfect Platform for Synthesizers?
I had always been hesitant about substack due to the fact that writers need to drive their own audience- organic audience-building within substack is very limited. But it looks like things are changing- Enter Substack Notes, a place to share and discover short-form written content (some are calling it a Twitter alternative) Read about a writer's take on Substack Notes here I think the exciting thing about Substack Notes is the incentivisation of sharing quality content, and the lack of ads. Could this be an optimal place to share and discover quality ideas/ content, and organically build a paid audience? For many, it won't be a place where their ideal audience will hang out, but for some of us, it could be a great way to find a like-minded audience who appreciate nuanced ideas. Interestingly, Twitter has apparently started to disable activity on Tweets that contain substack links since Substack Notes has been announced... may be a point of contention for those who already have a large platform on Twitter I'm by no means recommending this or claiming expertise. But I wanted to share as it struck me to be a Synthesizer-relevant platform update. I'd be super interested to hear others' thoughts on this. Especially if you're a Twitter or Medium user.

@Jack Alderton yeah I think it’s definitely an interesting development. Platforms like substack and medium are appealing to me because they aim to promote value over vitality, without ads!! 🙏🏻 I like the idea of being part of a movement towards high quality ideas rather than brain-numbing viral trends (not saying that it isn’t possible to do traditional social media platforms in the ‘right’ way- Dan Koe is a great example of this) But seeing how Medium has struggled to become profitable makes me sceptical of the ad-free model. Still, I’m thinking the possible upside of being an early adopter of the new platform feature might be a good learning experience, and has the potential to really pay off.

@Zein F great point actually! Thanks for sharing- I don’t think you’re wrong I get that perspective, and I think there’s something to be said for keeping that direct relationship. I tend to read the newsletters that I sign up for in my email rather than on substack. BUT I got kinda excited about being able to discover new creators via the new notes. I’m really interested to see what the notes feed is like when the algorithms aren’t created with the end purpose of serving us ads. Maybe it won’t be different. I’m also not sure that a smaller user base is necessarily a bad thing, depending on who you’re targeting. I like the idea of a user base that values quality information over being mindlessly entertained. But perhaps pursuing this is just a distraction from other stuff with higher leverage

Emotions and Self-esteem
Hey there! I'm getting ready to lead a workshop for some teens about emotions and self-esteem. With your current wisdom, if you were magically transported back to your teenage years, what useful info, tools, or habits about emotions and self-esteem do you wish you had known about?

@Corey Bennett Boardman yesss!! And people should not scoff at that at all. One of the biggest proponents of tiny habits such as that (I think tiny habits literally the name of his book), BJ Fogg was the founder (in 1998) and director of the Persuasive Technology Lab at Stanford. A program of which many alumni have had significant influence on designing technology that influences the behaviour of its users.

@Nkateko Siweya For sure, and once it becomes a habit not to keep your own word, it can become difficult to undo because the mind is *sneaky* and will often mean that we trick ourselves into letting ourselves off the hook, then only in hindsight realise that we effed up. Thanks for sharing your video, I'll check it out!

Super powerful, awesome scripting and editing- it held my attention all of the way through. Despite having consumed a lot of content along these lines (and just this morning finished the book ‘Dopamine Nation’) I still took something from this. Congrats on another video!
Getting LOCAL Prospects To See Your Content? (local business synthesizing)
Can this even be done via algorithms, or do we need to put additional manual work into this? (e.g. Dream 100 strategy --- direct outreach & connection, or local ads?) 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲: So I have a friend who's building a breathwork business & he's trying to get 𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗟 reach. --- totally unique modality, brand new to North America (first wave of licensed practitioners) with its own advantages. _________ 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵: Although some breath techniques can be taught and shared online, Facilitation requires the practitioner to be there in person. >>> & for other businesses (restaurants, etc.) there may be huge advantages there. ============ 𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗗 (𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒑 𝒔𝒐 𝑶𝑻𝑯𝑬𝑹𝑺 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒃𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒕 𝒂𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍): ~ ~ ~ ~ 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 = 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀? ============ 𝗔 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗜'𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗻 (thinking about similar services): Mondragon chiropractic 1.73 M subscribers - it probably helps the comments section seems to think there is an attractive practitioner as well as attractive patients for this... Interesting things I've noticed: - Commenters and patients (for example on the Mondragon channel ----- and I haven't watched it yet but this HAS to be true on the "ASMR" channel) seem to find these videos very soothing & theraputic JUST to see this happen - Of course, this would help you build a connection - Pre-selling - the patient is already imagining themselves being there by watching the video - Immediate feedback

@Griffin A. Hamilton yeah there’s definitely a gap there (with location based features), but I suppose the platforms intent is usually to keep people online rather than getting them out into the real world 😩 and are people motivated to watch local content? With SEO and/or trying to get the content to show up naturally for people in the area, I’d want to know how many of them have search intent, or in the case of content would be naturally inclined to engage in breathwork-related content if it came up for them? I’d imagine building awareness for the benefits is key and generally that works best from creators/ businesses that someone already knows, likes and trusts. Which I suppose as you say is very aligned with Dream 100!

@Griffin A. Hamilton one platform of interest actually could be Newsbreak, which allows creators to write local news and content. There could be potential to write local health-related content on there no in the process build some brand awareness! I don’t know what their self-promo rules are though
