Intuit just signed a $100M deal with OpenAI… here's why that matters for accountants
Big news: Intuit (the company behind QuickBooks, TurboTax, and Mailchimp) has partnered with OpenAI to deeply integrate AI into their product ecosystem. This means apps like QuickBooks will soon be able to connect directly to ChatGPT. So, what does that mean for us in the accounting space? 🧠 AI-powered workflows are about to get much more practical inside tools we already use šŸ’¬ Client conversations, forecasting, and compliance could soon include real-time GPT guidance šŸ’» ChatGPT connectors to QuickBooks may reshape how we do reconciliations, reports, and insights šŸ’” Opportunity for firms who understand AI first—before clients do it themselves And one big thought: If this becomes mainstream, how will your firm differentiate itself? I’d love to know… šŸ‘‰ Are you using any GPT integrations or AI tools inside accounting platforms yet? šŸ‘‰ How do you see this shift impacting your work? Drop your thoughts in the comments šŸ‘‡ (And if you want to read more, here’s the original article: TechCrunch link)

I tried uploading a bank statement PDF to run a reconciliation, and after waiting through the extraction process, I got a message saying the tool only works with statements that have a single account. I tested it again with another bank, and this time the message said a human needed to review the extraction to confirm accuracy. In other words, we’re helping them train their AI, using our time and effort. Intuit does this a lot… they leverage us as their testing and marketing engine, and then sell the same services directly to our clients, including bookkeeping. I built my own custom GPT to extract transactions from PDFs, and it’s been working great. Once I have the CSV, I open it, verify the math manually—beginning balance + deposits – expenses = ending balance... and if it ties, I upload it to QBO. After that, applying my rules and classifying the transactions makes reconciliation incredibly fast. AI is powerful and genuinely helpful, but at the end of the day, it’s just another tool. Every company is trying to capitalize on it; either to upsell you or raise prices. Behind the scenes, they’re all running the same APIs, which is why some of their tools take longer than simply using your own ChatGPT subscription. Know what you need, choose the tool that performs best—right now, that’s ChatGPT—and tune out the noise. At the end of the day, someone still has to do the work, and that someone is us. This profession is built on relationships. The more you speak directly with your clients, the more they value you. And with the holidays coming, sending a chocolate basket to their team or gifting branded Yetis does far more for your business than advertising yourself as the ā€œmost AI-advancedā€ accounting firm. In my opinion.
🌐 Meet ChatGPT Atlas—OpenAI’s New AI-Powered Browser (Mac Only… for now)
OpenAI has officially launched Atlas, their new web browser built around ChatGPT... bringing AI directly into your browsing experience. Here’s what makes it interesting: āœ… What’s new - A ChatGPT-sidebar built into every page, letting you summarise, analyse, compare or rewrite content side-by-side. - A new ā€œAgent Modeā€ (for Plus/Pro users) that can autonomously carry out tasks such as researching, shopping or booking, directly from the browser. - Full privacy controls—Atlas opts you out by default from using your browsing data to train models and lets you manage ā€œBrowser Memoriesā€. - Important: Currently it’s available only on macOS with Windows, iOS and Android versions coming later. I’ve uploaded a short video with my initial thoughts on Atlas, watch it below. šŸ¤” I’d love to hear from you: - Are you going to try Atlas? - If yes — what feature interests you the most? - If no — what’s holding you back? Drop your thoughts below!

Absolutely fascinating. I switch to Gemini AI browser, but did not like it too much. I guess there is a learning curve and adaptation phase to it for us older folks. OpenAI is officially disrupting the browsing landscape with Atlas. This is the start of a new era where AI becomes part of the web experience itself. From an accounting and marketing standpoint, I see this transforming how we approach SEO and content strategy. We’re moving from keyword stuffing to relevant, value-driven content that truly answers intent-based searches. We, as business owners and telemarketers ourselves, need to be on top of these changes in order to get value from our online marketing campaigns. This could completely redefine how businesses get discovered online — and those who adapt early will lead the next wave of digital visibility. šŸ‘
🌓 Entrepreneurs Can Never Switch Off…
At least when you have to work, it helps to have a good office view. Right now, mine is by the sea in Spain šŸ–ļø (photo below šŸ‘‡). Even when we’re away, the ideas don’t stop… but I’m not complaining with this setup! šŸ‘‰ I’d love to know: Where’s your favourite place to do work?

Here is mine at a French Croissant @ Doral Miami meeting with a client for some signatures. This is the view of some great pastries and excellent coffee. The other picture is my assistant taking a break... šŸ˜„

🧠 New Feature: Project-Only Memory
There’s a powerful update to Projects—you can now enable project-only memory. With this on, ChatGPT will: - Remember context only within that project - Ignore your other saved memories - Keep everything self-contained so nothing carries over to future chats Perfect for long-running or sensitive work where you want ChatGPT to stay focused on one project. šŸ‘‰ Note: You’ll need to have Personal Memory turned on (Settings → Personalization → Memory). Available now on the web and Windows app—mobile and macOS coming soon. šŸŽ„ Video with full details is below.

šŸ“¹ How to Get Transcriptions from Videos
One of our community members asked me: ā€œHow do you get transcriptions from videos—whether they’re on your computer or on YouTube?ā€ So I recorded a quick video to walk you through exactly what I do: - For your own videos → I use Otter.ai (simple and reliable). - For YouTube videos → I use a Chrome extension (Glasp), which lets you copy the full transcript straight into ChatGPT. šŸŽ„ I’ve included the video below so you can see the full workflow. šŸ‘‡ Once you’ve watched it, let me know... have you tried transcribing videos for your work before? If yes, which tools did you use?

Hello everyone, so I open a new Otter.ai account to record a meeting, but the free version only captured 30 minutes of it. I then found out that Calendly.com just launched their Note taker, I will be trying this next time. But, if you are using Google workspace, and need transcripts after the fact from a video. Then... ta-da.... you can use NotebookLM; just drop the video link in the Source, and you will get the transcript below the video; you can then prompt the Chat to organize the transcript with the name of each speaker and there you have it... an organized text transcript for your archives. I will try the Glasp extension to see how it works on live Zoom meetings. Thank you @Mark Wickersham for keeping us up to date.
