Production is THE skill.
Are you learning how to produce inside a DAW like Ableton live or logic Pro? You can learn how to write songs, you can learn how to play your guitar, you can learn how to perform live, but the most important skill you could possibly learn is how to produce. Get inside of a DAW like Ableton live or logic pro and learn how to use that software. Understand signal chain and how to use all of the different plug-ins. My music career dramatically improved when I was able to take my ideas and bring them to life without anybody else’s assistance. Get out there and start producing!

@Alfie Mia I am a composer of music for TV, ads, and film. I have music licensed in hundreds of shows, mostly reality TV shows and sports programming. I am working to grow my catalog and achieve the top prize of endless royalties. 🤣

@Rachel Simon No need to think. If I can do it, you can do it and do better! 😀
Songwriting Tip of the Week
Songwriting is all about capturing emotion. This week’s tip: Start with a strong concept before writing lyrics. A clear theme makes your lyrics more powerful and relatable. What theme are you writing about right now?

I’d tend to disagree. 😱 The first thing to do when writing a song is to actually get started and keep going until the song is done. ✍️ Not all songs need raw emotional depth to be impactful. A lot of those songs get ignored for songs that appeal to how people really see the world. 🌏 Songs about being famous, being rich, partying, hooking up with somebody for the night, getting drunk, and doing something indulgent get more airplay than songs that work to build raw emotional depth. It’s not always a good thing to be so serious about life. 😥
Why Some Songs Feel Empty (Even When They’re “Good”)
Ever finish a song and realize… it checks all the boxes, but it just doesn’t feel right? I’ve noticed that when a melody doesn’t match the emotional weight of the lyrics, when it climbs where it should fall, or stays safe where it should break, the song loses its impact. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with emotional contour mapping, adjusting the melody to match the lyric’s emotional pulse, and it’s been eye-opening. Curious if anyone here’s played with that idea before, or if you’ve found other ways to keep songs emotionally alive?

That’s way too much work. Sometimes a song doesn’t need “emotion” in order to work. A song that makes someone dance or laugh has as much or even more value than a song with emotional weight. Remember that there are emotions besides love and happiness. 😎
Getting more streams organically.
Any tips to get more streams on streaming platforms like Spotify? I just put my first release up 2 months ago and I’m quite green.

The organic growth game is dead on arrival. 🚫 Regardless of quality, musicians with great promotion get more streams. 📀 If organic growth actually worked, McDonalds and Coca-Cola would have remained regional brands instead of becoming global brands. 🌎 You have to market yourself to get more streams. And you are not good at marketing, recruit someone who is good at marketing. 🗣️ There is no value in waiting for streams to come to you. Chase! 🐆
