Viral Games
Nope don't be rude, not those sort of games 🤭 ! A lot of first game ideas get way too big. Viral games are usually the opposite: - One clear mechanic. - One obvious problem. - One moment people want to show someone else. If you’re building something, ask: - Can someone understand it in 3 seconds? - Does it create funny or surprising moments? - Would someone send a clip to a friend? I've create a Game Virality Evaluation Prompt . Just enter in your game idea in the box on the right, scroll down and click 'Copy Prompt' right down at the bottom. Paste that into your favourite AI chat bot: ChatGPT if you want to feel good... Claude if you want the truth 😉 ! If you want extra points for the 500 member competition, paste the results of the above into your thread.

@Tom Hodges yes I'm a big proponent of the idea that games should market themselves. Viral games are a great example of this idea, Megabonk is another good viral example btw. Gemini is unfortunately high on the sycophantic scale. However it can also give great ideas at times so I would say its a good one to use for this prompt but maybe use Claude in tandem to get a more 'realistic' assessment 😅 .

What a fantastic idea. I love the link to an actual IRL school in Uganda. The unlocks of actual video footage, photos etc is very clever. I've seen this work in apps but never in a game, this may be a first but I'm not sure, maybe someone else here has seen something similar. Let us know!

@Charles Wilson this is a great idea, it's like a single player version of Hidden In Plain Sight or Spy Party. Obviously there's some major differences but that's the closest games to this idea I can think of. Might also fit nicely with the Virality Evaluator , maybe see what it thinks of it? Not a stupid idea 🤣.
Introduction
Hi I'm Paul, hoping that age is not a factor. I really like the top down shooter genre. My experience with coding is minial. The game I want to ship is NovaForge a top-down, sci-fi roguelike bullet-hell shooter that swaps Enter the Gungeon's gun mythology for modular weapon crafting and gravity-bending combat.

I like it, you have a name AND a strong game idea! Next steps, pass it through the Game idea Validator let us know, how it did, any useful feedback etc and do a post in Projects to kick start your journey! Oh age is most definitely not a factor! Enter the Gungeon is awesome btw 💪!

Which AI game dev tool should you use first?
If you're new, don't waste a week comparing tools. 😱 Pick the path that gets you to a tiny playable game fastest. 🚀 Short practical breakdown: - Never coded → ChatGPT / Claude + tiny browser game - Designer / creative → sketch the screen, action, fail condition - Rusty dev → OpenCode / Claude Code - Mobile goal → web first, mobile later - Steam goal → web first, Steam later - Money goal → prototype first, monetise later The Long Boring 🥱 Explanation: Never coded before? - Start with ChatGPT or Claude and make a tiny browser game. - Clicker. Reaction game. Memory game. Dodge game. Something stupidly small. - Not Unity. Not multiplayer. Not your dream RPG. Designer / creative? - Start with the screen. - What does the player do? - How do they lose? - Sketch that first, then get AI to turn it into a tiny playable loop. Rusty developer? - Use OpenCode or Claude Code. - You probably know enough to get agentic. Just don’t point it at a giant repo on day one. 🤣 - Start with one small web game or one mechanic. Want mobile eventually? - Still go web first. - Build the smallest browser version. If people actually play it, then think about mobile. Want Steam eventually? - Still go web first. - Steam is a great goal, but it’s a rough place to find out your core loop isn’t fun. - Test the tiny browser version first. Then scale it up. Want to make money? - Prototype first. Monetise later. - First question is: can someone understand and enjoy the game in 10 seconds (or 3)? My default advice: If you don’t know where to start, do Mini Quest 1 and ship one tiny browser game before picking a “serious” tool.
