Values
What values are you instilling on your kids through your homeschool journey? I was blessed with the opportunity to join todayโ€™s coffee chat and have been pondering ever since. My goals for the upcoming years are to instill the love of learning, perseverance and self care. My son has really been enjoying the warrior kid books by Jocko which really focus on all these things and I was wondering if anyone else had any good recommendations for books as we plan to read and be in nature all summer to transition from public to home ed (heโ€™s 7 next week) Thanks

One of our all time favorite book series is the Wingfeather saga by Andrew Peterson. I can't say enough good things about it. It's full of adventure, humor, heroism, sacrifice, perseverance, family ties and fun. Andrew Peterson is an amazing storyteller and we laughed, cried and were on the edge of our seats. Highly recommend as a whole family read. There is some peril, but its similar to Narnia. We read it as adults and knew we wanted it for our kids to help instill the values these characters have. We also liked the Wilderking series by Jonathan Rogers. For determination, humor, friendship, doing what's right when its hard. Etc. Both series have great values while also being fun, adventurous and giving you characters to root for. CS Lewis on reading the 'right' books: โ€œSince it is so likely that children will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker...โ€ With that quote in mind we have been on a quest for great books with good heroes. Love Unbroken! And another good biography for perseverance, against all odds underdog is "Boys in the Boat"
