@Jo Minnery, I belong to Fee’s Clothes Shop Facebook group, bought a lot of gorgeous pendants through one or two of the members, and I’ve sold a few items too. Anyone who acts up gets booted out, so it’s pretty safe.

✨ Thrift Spotlight: Vintage Mesh Purses (Oroton, Glomesh & more!)
Found this beautiful Oroton gold mesh coin purse the other day for $6 and had to share ✨Mesh accessories have been around for decades, and many countries have their own iconic brands. Here’s a fun bit of history I learned: 💡 Oroton - Began in the 1930s - Known for high-quality metal mesh bags - Hugely popular in Australia & New Zealand through the 70s–90s - Stylish, shiny, and super trendy at the time 💡 Glomesh - Started in 1958 in Sydney - Also famous for metal mesh purses, clutches, and wallets - Their mesh pieces were everywhere in the 60s–80s - Often mixed up with similar brands worldwide And of course, other countries had their own mesh legends like Whiting & Davis (USA), which dates back to the 1800s and is still collected today. Mesh designs were a big deal globally — elegant, durable, and instantly eye-catching. Have you ever thrifted a mesh bag where you live? Or do you remember these from your country? If you have one (any brand!), feel free to share a pic — an Oroton Wallet was the thing to have in the 80's here in New Zealand ...I remember really wanting one ...how about you? ✨

@Jo Minnery, I got them to use, but haven’t been anywhere to use them yet! I got two of the diamantés swapped from the front to the back of the bag as they were discoloured.

Do you buy fast fashion secondhand?

Technically no, as in I don’t buy Shein or Temu, but I did buy a Shein Christmas tee shirt from Savemart recently. I nearly didn’t, but it had a cute cat print and it wasn’t expensive. Normally if I see the name I go no further.
What's an instant NO from you when Thrifting?
- Pilling/fading - Stains - Bad smell - Overpriced - Missing parts - Fast fashion brands - Broken zippers/buttons

Definitely any smell of sweat - you can usually get rid of a slight musty smell with washing and airing, but sweat is incredibly difficult to remove. Cheap fast fashion for anything other than the odd teeshirt or nightshirt. Broken zips, noticeable holes or rips. I did take a chance on a $5 crushed velvet dress with a dark stain on the front. It turned out to be gravy or similar and it all washed out. As for pricing, if I really love something, I’ll buy it regardless. I overheard two women in an op shop last week - one asked if the other was buying a dress she’d tried on. ‘No, they wanted $15 for it, I’m not paying $15 for a secondhand dress.’ I have happily paid $15 each for dresses from the same shop, knowing they’d be 10 times that new. I’ve also paid $80 for a genuine tweed Boden jacket in new condition from an op shop.
