AI and homesteading.
This question might seem very off topic but it really is not. Has anyone looked into local AI models and using this kind of technology on their homestead?

AI is useful when you have large datasets. So if you have a problem to solve and you have a lot of data on it then AI models may help you understand your data and make predictions. Most homesteaders aren’t collecting systematic data. If you collect weather and crop data then you’d have to have years of records input into a spreadsheet to even begin training a model. So all that effort to make some optimizations in the day you plant a seed? I can’t imagine a use case that justifies even the electricity required to run a local model. Overall it feels antithetical to permaculture and homesteading.

@Stefano Creatini AI futurism is a big can of worms! There is a major shift in employment markets due both to functional skills replacement by AI and the operations of the Big Tech economic engine. Job elimination due to AI is still low and mostly impacting younger, entry level workers (but they’re almost always fodder for the fire in bear markets so the market forces are a factor too). We also keep throwing around the term “AI” like it’s a single product when it’s not a product, AI refers to a branch of research in computer science. Most people can barely prompt chatGPT much less have any in depth understanding of the tech and its implications. As a scientist, ML is making very few parts of my job “easier and more accurate or precise”. ML is not replacing my expertise anytime soon and genAI wildly hallucinates around most concepts in graduate level textbooks. It’s good for a quick research tool, helpful for formatting citations, and producing low level outlines as a means to kickstart tasks. While I can see value in simple automations on permaculture homesteads, I cannot foresee any ethical use of AI tools. Holmgren showed us the four scenarios. Permaculture AI is techno-fantasy. I think clean tech stability is frankly a fantasy too. Energy descent and collapse is the future (human history will repeat itself). Will AI help accelerate us towards our lifeboats?

Hello my fellow homesteaders. As you all are deeply passionate about permaculture & homesteading... I wanted to give you a heads up before others. A big change is happening soon. Have you visited the "classroom" tab of this community? You would find three courses named "holistic homesteading academy". Actually It's one course but divided into 3 tracks due to it's length and category. Those 3 tracks are: 1. Permaculture Principles 2. Designing Your Homestead 3. Practical Application This is actually an academy level training taking a person from 0 to almost an expert level in permaculture and homesteading. ... Even if you have no land. (That's actually the ideal scenario) The course was priced at $1300 or around $1500 for payment plans. Almost 3000 students enrolled at that price over 1 year period. But right now? If you click on the "classroom" tab - you will see the price is $297 + $99 + $99 = $495 The reason why the price is so low is because I'm not actively selling it. It's just sitting there. But... 24th June onwards... I'm launching the course again at $897 or more. The launch will happen with ad traffic. So... You have a few days left at this price. Also... There's a 90 days money back guarantee. (Always were) If you ever dreamt of having your own homestead but have no clue how... This is time. This offer is exclusively applied to group members. Go to the "classroom" tab and you will find there to buy it. Cheers!
