As I have been taking this course, this thought has been on my mind. We know about blatant inauthenticity and the inauthentic stories we tell ourselves. In the book (All Marketers Are Liars), Seth Godin says we form a worldview and then look for details to support it. HOWEVER, Some people tell themselves lies by only allowing themselves to see the truth partially and leaving out the rest that will expose their faulty beliefs or thought processes. Neil Degrasse Tyson stated, “One of the great challenges in this world is knowing enough about a subject to think you're right, but not enough about the subject to know you're wrong.” And for some, this is purposeful. They will go as far as to find ways to invalidate the complete truth when it's brought to their awareness. They may say, “This scientist does not align with my values. Therefore, I cannot take from them.” “This is a new age practice. Who can trust anything in this modern world? ” Or, they use a valid legitimate truth entirely out-of-context to justify their belief and worldview. They use the little truth they allow themselves to accept as an excuse to absolve themselves from meaningful progress. QUESTION: Have you encountered someone like this?
