when stuff gets heavy..........
🛠️ Real Talk for Business Owners: Every one of us has that moment where the business feels heavy — quotes piling up, customers waiting, no time to breathe. So here’s the question: When your business feels overwhelming, what’s your go-to move to get back in control? Your answer could help someone else who’s in that same place right now. This group works because we don’t pretend to have it all together — we grow together.

My case might be different from others, but I have a small customer base. I will be growing it soon, but I try not to get too overwhelmed because I need to have time to be a father too. So when it has happened.... that I got too overwhelmed, I've always found that honesty is always the best answer. Talking to customers and explaining that you have a lot going on and need to push some back a bit may be your answer. I would definitely prioritize the level of need in your customer jobs... Like I wouldn't let a leaking waterline continue over a cosmetic job, ect. If they push back too much, you may want to drop them as a customer. This is one aspect that I enjoy about being self-employed... that I get to pick and choose the jobs I do.
What is the focus when.......
When you have a conversation do you first seek to understand or do you seek to rebuttal?

I think I first seek to relate to the customer to find some common ground. I live in a small town and the majority of my work is repeat customers, or word of mouth. After finding common ground, I ask some questions related to the task(s) at hand. I offer free consultations and have no problem telling a customer if the job they hired me for would require a licensed sub-contractor. In California, my jobs cannot go over $1000 including materials.... without a General Contractors B License.
