Why Your Child Treats Your Advice Like It’s Broccoli 🥦
Okay, parents, let’s talk about something awkward. You know those moments when you’re watching your swimmer at practice, and you think, "I could fix this in, like, two seconds if they’d just LISTEN TO ME?” Yeah, about that. Here’s the deal: To your swimmer, your advice is like broccoli. Full of vitamins, nutrients, and wisdom... but also the thing they instinctively shove off the plate. Why? Because you’re their parent. And when it comes to swimming, parents are automatically coded as: 1. Emotionally biased. 2. Totally out of touch with modern swimming techniques (even if you’re not). 3. Trying too hard. The result? Everything you say—even if it’s Olympic-level genius—goes in one ear, out the other, and splashes into the pool drain. But wait, it gets better. Even if they do hear you, there’s a good chance you don’t have the exact process to get them from “nervous wreck in the call room” to “calm, focused competitor.” You know the destination. But the roadmap? That’s a whole different thing. Now here’s where it gets hilarious (in a “laugh so you don’t cry” kind of way): If someone else—someone cool, someone who’s not you—tells them the exact same thing you’ve been saying, they’ll nod sagely and say, “Wow, that’s so true.” What? Yep. It’s the law of parenting: You’re broccoli, but someone else can be pizza. So, here’s my advice: Don’t sweat it. Lean into this dynamic. Let someone else—like, say, an ex-Olympian who gets your kid—step in and say the same thing in a way that lands. Because sometimes, the best way to be a great parent is to invite help from outside. Feel seen? 😁 Put your thoughts in the comments below. PS: Only 5 spots left for the "Call Room Mastery" live training tomorrow.

How to handle dissappointment and drop in Times?
My nine yo daughter swims competitions since April 23. Now she had to experience her fast drops in times...quite much 13sec in 200Free...she is very sad and frustrated...how do you handle situations Like that? And do you give extra vitamins,... What about nutritions? She can't eat much during competitions but would need it...And I do suspect she hast iron deficiency, maybe have to check that...

Hi B. Faced the same low in april may last year. It is a normal step in the progression and really hard on their mind . The idea is not to be discouraged .´. Continue to show up for training, it will have a positive effect on her time in some time. Definitely look into the nutrition. B has been supplemented in iron last year too! I feel like easy/ healthy food is great. She loves smoothies. And @David Karasek advised us on the vertue of bananas ! I am sure there are tons of other great ideas! Also she might be growing and it takes a lot of energy. How does she sleep?

@Julia Vollmer turning 11 today !!🥳
It s raining PBs!!! 😅
Hi some news from. B! She asked me to post her race from today. At first , She didn’t want to do this event as it is not one from her term goals and definitely not her preference stroke. But she showed great improvement in training and decided to go for it. Her objective was 42…. And she smashed it! We are far from the county record but her level of confidence is sky rocking ! Her attitude during the race is undeniable. She is fighting the clock!! Thank you @David Karasek for those incredible and so simple tools that just get her in a nearly professional approach. What she has learned about herself in invaluable. Commitment /Courage/ Capability / Confidence ! And already thinking about a new commitment ! I also heard her thanking her brain! 😂 and then it worked!

@Aoife Babbidge thanks! So proud of her
Great news!
Wanted to share some good news, Viktoria won solver for 50 m butterfly and 200 m medley. However, she knows that was luck as she did not beat her PBs. And her coach told her, "Viktoria you know you could swim faster". She still struggles sometimes with competition anxiety and she started to use the breathing technique. She struggles with using it in her daily life in order to become her routine and work unconsciously. As David said, something to work and get in your mind it needs to repeat many times until become routine. We, as parent support you and would do everything you manage in whatever you do, but this also depends on you, to do your part. Wish you dreams come true. 🙏
