I just arrived in Pokhara, Nepal, for a month-long coliving experience with digital nomads to gain insights and connect with like-minded people.

A traumatic event in my life made me realize just how short and unpredictable life can be. For years, I had been putting off my dreams, telling myself I would pursue them later—when I retired, had more time, or felt financially secure. But that moment was a powerful wake-up call, forcing me to question whether “later” was ever truly guaranteed. That’s when we decided to invest in a holiday home in France, envisioning it as our future retirement retreat. However, with the unexpected challenges of COVID and Brexit, we made the life-changing decision to leave the UK and start fresh.
What You Wish You'd Known...
I'm really interested in hearing about your experiences living abroad, particularly the challenges you've faced or observed. Your insights could be incredibly valuable for others in our community. If you've spent time living in another country, I'd love to hear your thoughts on: - What are some common mistakes you've seen expats make? - Can you share any specific examples of expat blunders you've witnessed or experienced firsthand - Why do you think some expats keep repeating these mistakes? - Have you witnessed any "success stories" of expats who initially struggled but managed to turn things around? - What advice would you give to someone who's about to become an expat? Don't hold back - the good, the bad, and the ugly are all welcome.

Respect the culture and traditions of the country you’re in, and make an effort to learn the language—at least enough to communicate. You do not need to be fluent. My French pronunciation is still not great, and I have a strong accent, but that doesn’t stop me from communicating 😅. Simply making the effort can go a long way.😁
What's stopping you from starting an online business?
Is it lack of ideas, fear of failure, technical challenges, or something else?

The fear of starting from scratch and the possibility that it might not work out. The worry that the online business space is crowded, making it hard to stand out and offer real value. But above all, the challenge of finding a passion that truly ignites a fire within—one that makes taking risks feel worth it. When I moved from the UK to France, I was prepared to leave my corporate role behind and start fresh, even considering taking on cleaning jobs for a while.
