Tonight I got some mooncakes from one of my Chinese students, and I was so happy. I actually fell in love with mooncakes about 20 years ago when I traveled to China. The moment I tasted one for the first time, I knew I loved it. What I love is the rich dense, and nutty, with a kind of comforting sweetness, not too sugary. It's... it's more about the the fullness of the flavour, that nutty richness with a a soft chew. And maybe even a hint of roasted aroma.... I don't know.. what I'm saying.... The kind that fills me up, so much so that one piece almost feels like a full meal. Getting these mooncakes tonight was such a lovely surprise. It brought me right back to that first taste years ago.
