If you're a Dad celebrating Father's Day today, or even a Pawther, seeing a banner that says "Welcome Baby" probably brings a smile to your face. A few days ago, I shared that Baby the elephant had begun her journey to sanctuary. Today, I'm happy to share that she arrived safely at Global Sanctuary for Elephants on June 20. I watched the video of her stepping out of her crate. Within minutes she was exploring, enjoying a dust bath, a couple of water baths, some fruit, and checking out her new surroundings. After decades in captivity, Baby has begun a new chapter. Today I watched her first full day at sanctuary, and she is doing great. Like many of us in a new environment, she seems a little unsure of her newfound freedom and is using her barn as a safe space. But she is getting out, exploring, and doing what an elephant is meant to do. The sanctuary team will be leaving her barn open tonight so she can come and go as she pleases, including taking a stroll under the stars if she chooses. I hope your day is filled with the same sense of wonder, possibility, and new experiences. If you'd like to follow Baby's journey, I highly recommend Scott's updates on their Facebook page. He is amazing, knows the elephants well, and shares so much about their personalities, needs, and progress. ๐๐ Here is the link to their website if you'd like to send Baby a little love through an adoption, a welcome basket, or help with transportation costs. Have a beautiful Father's Day.
