@Anthony Thomas everything pretty much felt foreign. Getting a bucket of balls - haven't done that. Bought a small bucket - noob move went and bought another small. Made a toptracer account - all new. Got to station and realized I didn't have any tees 😅 Hit one into the parking lot net 👌 Got into it and eventually started getting 130's to 150's of flat carry (I think this is dist. before the ball falls?) Shanked a ton obviously but hit one what felt like to the moon.

But had a CRAZY thing happen. One of my friends at church, his brother died tragically a month or so ago in a car accident and he was left with an extra set of clubs. I knew about the car accident but not about the clubs. I mentioned I was looking to get into it and he just gave gave me his entire set, he is going to keep his brothers. I said I was happy to pay for them but he said that was just the way his bro would have liked it to be generous to somebody.
Describe one of the best shots you've ever hit...
One of mine was during a High School golf match. Tough Par 5, Hit driver perfectly. Had 205 yards to the flag but water in front guarded the green. Hit 5 wood perfectly over the water to ONE FOOT FOR EAGLE. I missed the putt 🤣

Still my only 18 holes to date, somehow beginners lucked a par 3, hole three at Tanglewood. Making the guys I was with think I was going to be some kind of "natural" Very rapidly however, I was introduced to "mercy 8's" I had a lot of them.

@Craig Heath realizing that I didn't mention that my beginner's luck was that I got a par On a par 3 so I guess I'm 10 shots better than John Daly? LOL but yes many sympathy snowmans on other par threes will never really know how bad they would have gotten
Ok these really might be worth it...
Complete golf set with quality brands – perfect for beginners to intermediate players. From listing: Includes: • Nike stand golf bag (lightweight, great condition) • Ping G20 driver (10.5°) – very forgiving, popular model • Callaway Diablo Edge iron set (multiple irons included) • Additional wedges/irons • Odyssey putter Nice mix of well-known brands (Ping, Callaway, Nike, Odyssey). This is a great ready-to-play set without needing to piece anything together. Clubs are in good condition with normal wear and ready for the course.

I mean at Dick's you get a bare minimum top flight bag and set for 400 and they charge to change the grips so I guess from my one store experience I thought I'd rather get nicer used clubs and have the same work done. I may be thinking wrong, I defer to you. Clearly with age of clubs, different shafts, number of brands, types of wear and tear, there's a lot to think about - I didn't think it would be as complicated as buying a used car haha
Craigslist clubs...
For another starter set, messaged guy said he would throw in a brand new callaway stand bag this set of clubs for $275 doesn't include putter, told me the hybrids need new grips. Seems like getting new grips, a cheap putter and extensions would put this about same dollar amount of cheap starter set at Dicks for way better value. Thoughts?

@Anthony Thomas so basically knowing I need 1" extensions and mid sized grips does that effectively end the wisdom of going the CL route for some clubs - at least for vast majority of sets?
