WHO SAYS SEARCH TERMS HAVE TO BE WORDS 🪩 💛💚?
In @Brenda Rigney's recent post about her Daily Gems 💎, I shared how I’ve been using little custom emoji combos as search terms, to help my RoomMates find bundles of related content in a feed that’s grown to more than 500 posts in the past nine months. @Lindsay MacGregor asked if she could borrow this idea for her own Community. Of course, my answer is "Of course!" I thought I’d share this more formally here with some screenshots to explain it further, in case it’s useful for anyone else who wants to give it a try… My Skool is all about colour, so the feed is very colour-FULL, but there are only so many colour words and many of them apply to lots of posts. My Premium content posts get labelled with a 🪩, and I have a Category called '🪩 PREMIUM’ that will call up all the posts related to that Premium Tier content. But I can filter that down even further using colour-coded hearts, with posts that relate to specific colour-themed Premium Classrooms. For example, one of my Premium Classrooms is called '🪩 💛💚 THE YELLOW-GREEN ROOM' (first screenshot). If someone searched the Community using just using the word ’Yellow,’ they’d get 259 results (second screenshot), or ’Green,’ 182 results. Even 'Yellow-Green' together has 48 results (third screenshot). They could filter by selecting the '🪩 PREMIUM' Category, but that’s still spills onto Page 2 of the feed with more than 30 results. The Yellow-Green Room has seven lessons, each one links to a post in the Community, and each post title starts with the same set of three emojis: 🪩 💛💚. You can find all seven posts (and only those seven) by using the '🪩 💛💚' emojis as the search term (fourth screenshot). With only ten spots for Categories, I don’t have enough to make them 'colour-coded,' so creating unique search terms with emojis is a great way to add eye candy to your post titles (easy to find in the scroll), and a fun and effective way for your members to be able to filter your feed.
