G’day team, I am definitely a big fan of the ribtek broadhead. My knowledge isn’t that good on them. I use them as the legends that taught me used them and swore by them and that’s what we use. I don’t believe they are made anymore, but I believe there are pockets of gold stashed around the world where you can still get hold of some. I always found them easy to sharpen with a big file and strop before I went out hunting. They’d shave the hair off my arm and when I was hunting all the time, the back of my arms where bare and people would ask why 😂 Easy to put an edge back on in the field with one of those pull through tungsten style sharpeners, never as good as when I sharpen them at home, but would still take the hair off my arm. I’ve taken my fair share of pigs and goats with them, some rabbits, hares, feral cats and wild dogs. But I’m hoping to add to that list in the future 😎 From memory and I will get in contact with one of my mentors as he is a wealth of knowledge and one of the main influence for me using them to see if I can get a bit more history on them. But from memory, they came in 75,125, 145, 160, & 190 grain variants. I believe the 145 was a wide blade, I thought I still had some, but I must of used them. I only have a handful of 125’s and a 100 or so 190’s left in my possession. The key was not use a tapering tool to taper your shafts, the traditional tapering tool leaves a short length taper which didn’t go all the way to the end. They still flew ok, but they definitely didn’t have the strength or the flight than if you did a long taper all the way to the end of the pocket. But when we were smacking pigs at close quarters, it never mattered if you had a long or short taper. If that made sense. Here’s a few pics of the 190 & 125 heads I have. I will see if I can get some more information on the ribtek history for you all.

Osage long bow
Have started the journey to be a bowyer. Am hand making an Osage long bow from a stave. My 87 year old buddy is teaching me how to do it. I’m ready to put a string on it and start tillering. It’s 64” long. I’ve been a deer hunter for 40 years.

Sounds like a great journey to be on John. I’d love to see some photos of your build when you are ready.
Frustrating bow hunt
Does anyone else get super frustrated with trad bow hunting. I was out all day today, stalking a pair of does and a nice big buck but could not get within shooting distance. So many 50-60 yard broadside opportunities, but I am not accurate after about 30-40 yards. Just really makes me hate this trad bow stuff. Anyone else?

G'day @Brian Madigan. Trad hunting is a real journey. Honestly, I’ve watched way more animals wander off than I’ve ever drawn an arrow on. For me, it’s never just about the shot—it’s everything that happens along the way. The laughs, the sneaking around, the quiet moments while you’re out walking and watching. It’s about trying to get close, trying to outsmart an animal’s senses, and just enjoying being out there. Most of the time I’ve got my camera in one hand, snapping photos from a distance, and I’m perfectly happy doing that. But when the camera goes away and I’m actually focused on the hunt… I’m all in. I’ve belly-crawled through who-knows-how-many meters of prickles and thorns trying to get close—only for something to go sideways at the last second and the animal bolts anyway. Grant calls it “hunting the hard way,” and yeah, it definitely is. But to me, it’s just hunting. I love every form of archery, and I’ve got a ton of respect for anyone who puts in the time and effort to send an arrow downrange, no matter what they shoot. But stick with it, it makes for great memories & when it comes together, it makes it all worth the time & effort.

Been flinging arrows for about 26 years here in Australia. Around 20 of those years have been exclusively with my trusted longbow.
