I finally recorded my Episode One 😭
I made my first recording. It was audio only, since I’m starting out incognito, and so long in the making, and for me a marathon length of talking (1 hr 18 minutes long), and because I was so closeted away, focused on the birthing of the content and not looking at all the different techniques and strategies, all I did was record it using the equipment I already had, so it’s probably got lots of roughness about it, but damn, I finally made the recording 😭. I’m so happy.

Yay! Congrats!
Audio cleanup question
Hey! I'm back from Confluence and just got the recording of my workshop. We recorded it on an iphone on a tripod near the crowd so the sound is less than awesome. I uploaded it to Riverside and did their "magic" sound thing. At 100% it sounds gross, but around 10% it sounds okay. I'm playing with that slider. Are there any better solutions for cleaning up the audio? Thanks!

@Alberto Croce Thanks! Cool I'll see if descript does it better.

@Alberto Croce Thanks! I'll try those out. I tested with both riverside and descript magic audio things and I feel like I got about the same results. Here's what I ended up with, through Riverside. https://www.healingoctopus.com/confluence/ And I actually made a thumbnail this time. 😁
Offering ongoing tech guidance for cool entrepreneurial people
Hi podcasting friends! I'm offering some group business tech guidance for entrepreneurs and there's super low founder's pricing happening for the next couple days. I can definitely help walk you through the podcasting tech hurdles, in addition to things like websites, email lists, and the rest of the tech stress mess. I'm pretty much copying the model of the Podigy offer because I think it's great. 😁 A group space where you can ask tech questions and I'll answer there, plus I'll host weekly group office hours calls where I answer questions for the group, and I'm building up a resource library of common solutions. The next call is Monday night and I'm going to present a little on email marketing plus answer questions. (Are you noticing the theme here?) Monday's also the last day to get founding pricing. Check it all out here: https://www.healingoctopus.com/tech-clarity/
Tech Questions...
Hi Team! It's been a little while for me. I've had some personal things going on in the background that urged me to put this project aside for a few weeks, but I'm back and ready to record! I'm setting up my tech today and noticed a couple things that I had questions about. I'm wondering if anyone can help rectify these for me... 1. I have the Shure SM7 mic and am wondering about adjusting levels in Descript. In all my searches, I can't seem to find out how! Does anyone know? 2. I've plugged my iPhone into my computer and it isn't showing up in the video options upon recording. I've noticed that currently Descript is experiencing recording and transcription issues, which they're fixing, so maybe that's why? But if I'm missing a step please let me know. Thank you in advance!

In Descript the audio level is under Properties. I clicked on the audio track, then Properties, then there's a section called Audio and I can drag the slider to change the volume. See the attached screenshot. I think there's a more AI way in Descript to fix the levels though. If you're talking about the mic input itself, you should be able to mess with the settings in the Shure app, which you'll have to download. I think it defaults to auto-gain which I haven't changed and haven't had any issues. You can also change the mic level in the Mac sound settings. I would try changing it there first. Then try the Shure app. Is that what you're asking about?
Just for fun
This made me laugh. DeArrow is a browser extension that crowdsources less sensational YouTube title and thumbnails. https://dearrow.ajay.app/ So people replace the existing titles and thumbnails with more useful and honest ones and the people who use the extension get those instead. It's not exactly gonna scale but I think it's fun that this exists. And makes me feel a little less alone in my dislike of playing the YT game.
