Questions
Experienced Nuke Workers!! First outage, will be in NC for back to back outages so give or take 60 days. 1. What should I be packing? 2. Do I need steel or composite boots? 3. What’s typical attire for Decon workers? 4. Any tips for first time outage goers?

Have yet to talk about The Grid to my friends and co workers at Turkey Point due to being very sick with the flu after going to Orlando with my wife before the outage so as of now should not be too many contractors in the chat but as you've seen there are some very helpful seasoned house techs. I'll answer to what I know. 1- Imagine you are going on very a long vacation- bring those items. The only thing plants do not provide are boots. They provide scrubs most of the time but perhaps by some scrubs as well just in case. Would not recommend buying very expensive scrubs as you could very easily lose them in the RCA forever being new and accidentally getting some contamination on you. 2- Either work but I do composite toe so I can walk right through the metal detector without having to take my shoes off every time as I walk in with my boots on. Some people bring them in and keep them in a locker so they wear tennis shoes in which might be wise for helping your feet from getting fatigued. Some plants let you wear tennis shoes every where so long as you meet their criteria for not being around heavy loads overhead. 3- Typical attire is what everyone else wears. Scrubs and a plain T shirt or all scrubs and the work boots. I routinely wear my own pant scrubs and comfy T shirts I like. 4- Tips: Ask many questions and never be afraid to ask what you would consider dumb questions until you know. Ask what questions you should be asking but are not. The truth is you are new to this world so you are dumb going into it. Not dumb in general but in this industry until you learn over time and become smart in it. Also do not break rules necessarily but do not fear radiation or contamination. It takes thousands of times more than what we deal with in power plants to actually harm you. I have only a couple times in my life been around the potential for something to be lethal and they were special projects with many stop points and fail safes in place. safest industry you will ever join.

@Jonathan Vowles Congrats Jonathan
Quelling concerns about RP in fall
I spoke to Joey at Westinghouse today about doing the week of testing and he said that they may end up starting early in June because they have a lot of people in the queue this year. So they’re potentially doing June, July, and August. I asked him if it was going to be hard to place that many people in the fall if they all passed and were jr RP at the same time and he said that they usually have a 50-75 person attrition rate due to the RPs taking permanent positions either with the plants they’re working at or with the Department of Energy, so he wasn’t worried at all. This was something that I’ve been worried about so just thought I’d share in case anyone else was feeling the same as me.

The demand might be coming from me. No one else in nuclear markets these positions. At least not the quick route. Got a couple posts on Reddit that hit a million views. Apologies if that makes it tougher for you guys but sounds like Westinghouse is adjusting fast to it.
Wolf Creek Opening Positions
Just got word that Wolf Creek will be looking for two in house (permanent) positions and 3 contracting positions very soon. The 3 contracting positions are for Junior RP's and will last till October 1st, ending with a dry fuel campaign. My guess is they will keep the contractors on until and throughout their spring outage which starts next spring. Very long project either way. Pay will be $36 an hour and $155 per diem per day (the non taxable living expenses). I'll keep you guys updated when it goes live for whoever is interested and qualifies. That being Junior or Senior RP's.

@Christopher Rajski II You’re a great candidate for all those reasons but Wolf Creek hires out through Westinghouse for contractors. If you were working for Westinghouse as a Junior RP tech you would have a good shot. Your main objective is to get onboarded by one of these contracting companies at the moment- would have Terrence from RSCS in here before the end of Turkey Point. You could DM him directly then for decon roles.
