Recording Grammy-winning vocals in a bedroom
Super excited to share something with you today that's a first of it's kind for Mastering.com We're hosting an exclusive 5-day Vocal Production workshop where you'll get to learn the A to Z of recording and mixing vocals from Adele's very own engineer. Introducing Austen Jux-Chandler. Austen won a Grammy for recording Adele on her album, 25. In the attached photos, can see him on stage (second from the left) accepting the Grammy with Adele. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Austen has also recorded Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, A$AP Rocky, SZA, Mark Ronson, and John Legend. He has earned a reputation as one of the top vocal producers in the world. We recently hung out with Austen at Lion Share Studios in LA, where he told us that he prefers to record at his artist's homes, rather than multi-million dollar studios. It helps create a more comfortable environment that improves the performance, he said. That's when I knew we had to do something with Austen, so he could show you step-by-step how he's able to record Grammy-winning vocals in a bedroom. So, starting March 2nd, Austen is going to spend 5-days with students live on Zoom, teaching his entire methodology from session prep to recording, editing, comping, mixing, creative effects, and more. Austen has never opened up his process like this before, so don't miss this chance to learn from one of the best in the industry. All the info is here: https://courses.mastering.com/product/1769595511504x935745290124299100?utm_source=Skool We're offering an early bird discount with 20% off until the end of January (expires 11:59pm Eastern Time, this Saturday, Jan 31st). The discount has already been applied at the link above. Hope to see lots of you there! Rob

@Daan Hofman same topic but very different programs. Vocal Intensive is a go-at-your-own-pace course that’s very methodical, taught by our mentors. The workshop is Austen will be live and more of a communal event with homework between sessions, taught by a Grammy-winning engineer. There is of course a lot of overlap in the strategies covered but you’ll get a slightly different perspective from each, and they are both different experiences in the form of delivery. They’re highly complimentary and pair well together but ultimately it’s down to how you like to learn.

A "Sync Licensing" Offer
Hey guys - would love your thoughts on this. A guy on Facebook named "John M Stickel" is saying he wants to offer my a sync licensing opportunity for an indie game for my track "Mad World". I've asked for more information and he claims he's an independent contractor and said: "If you’re interested, just send your full name, phone number, email, and mailing address for the agreement draft. Totally optional, nothing is locked in without your approval." To which I said I need more information about the offer and his company before sending over personal contact and he claims that "Once I have those details, I’ll send over the agreement for your review." Like... this is weird, right?

Hey everyone to reiterate what Anji said, this was on Facebook, not on this Skool group. We're on top of it here and Skool are about to roll out some big changes to further clamp down on spam.

Beautiful 🫶
@Pierce Hale I checked out the Jan 26 Mentor call out of curiosity to see what they were actually like, and I wasn't expecting to be in tears. It's beautiful, really very beautiful and the conversation you had with the tutor. I didn't know it would be that sort of atmosphere in the mentor calls. You have a lovely friendship with Berlin. I lost my Mum when I was 17 and I just think this is incredibly beautiful, heartfelt music. Congratulations. I'll go and hunt down your song on the platforms :) No need to respond, just wanted to leave you some praise. 👍

Mix trick or trash?
We’re going to film a video called “mix trick or trash?” for YouTube. Well read out a common mixing tip, then each vote if it’s a great trick, or total trash. What are the most controversial mixing tips and tricks you can think of that we could cover?

AI Plugins, anyone got any thoughts on this.
I just got an email through from SSL about their new AI based dynamic plugins, link to the EQ here autoEQ and was wondering if anyone had either any experience of these or any thoughts on the use of AI in the mixing process, I am guessing that the plugin learns how you do things and then gives suggestions on how to improve what you currently have, I have had a lot to do with inference based learning in the past and not found the models created to be that effective so I am not sure if this will be any better, anyhow I will install the evaluation's and give them a go.
