Is My Starter Ready? โ€“ Live Zoom Workshop
If youโ€™ve got a jar of starter sitting in your fridge and youโ€™re not sure if itโ€™s alive, fed enough, or ready to bake withโ€ฆ you are not the only one. On Tuesday, June 3rd, 2026 from 1:00โ€“2:30 pm CT, Iโ€™m hosting a 90โ€‘minute live Zoom workshop where weโ€™ll look at your actual starter together. Youโ€™ll walk away knowing: - Whether your starter is ready, needs a little rehab, or needs a restart - Exactly how to feed it over the next 3 days - What โ€œnormalโ€ looks like (so you stop secondโ€‘guessing every bubble) - When itโ€™s a good time to mix dough for your first loaf You just need: - Your sourdough starter (even if itโ€™s been ignored in the fridge) - Some flour and water - 90 minutes where you can be near your kitchen This first workshop is $27 as a beta. Crash course in starter care, maintenance, feeding ratios + more! ๐Ÿ‘‰Is My Starter Ready? โ€“ Live Workshop

Real Talk: The "Why"
Okay, honest question. What got you into sourdough in the first place? Was it a loaf you tasted somewhere and couldn't stop thinking about? A friend who made it look easy? A pandemic rabbit hole you never climbed out of? ๐Ÿ˜„ What keeps you coming back?

Mine started at the farmers market. I was already selling artisan bread and my customers kept asking โ€” do you have sourdough? And I kept saying no. ๐Ÿ˜„ Not because I didn't want to. Because I was intimidated by it. I decided that I would deep dive in every method I tried was SO complicated. Multiple steps, specific timing, things going wrong I couldn't explain. I was frustrated. Honestly, a little defeated. I was looking for a sustainable method, one that I could just put in my tool belt and use as I needed I was having a hard time finding that. Then one day, I decided I would just add starter to the artisan recipe I was already making. And it worked. I did it again. It worked again. Every single time. That was the moment everything clicked. My customers were happy. I was happy. And then I thought โ€” wait. If I was this overwhelmed by the complicated methods, other people are too. People at home are giving up on sourdough because nobody's showing them the simple way. So I started teaching workshops. And I never stopped. That was over 6 years ago. Sourdough doesn't have to be complicated. It just needs the right starting point. That's why I'm here still, I stay to support you (cheesy, but true) as you begin your bread making journey...

@Helene Lachapelle That's a good idea, for beginners with sourdough, I recommend starting with white flour - then progressing to whole grains. They have a slightly different process that is easier to grasp once you are comfortable with the artisan loaves and understanding what to look for. Otherwise, it can just be overwhleming.

@James Falor Beautiful! Well done!

Hello, I am wanting to try the method where the dough is kept in the fridge until I'm ready to shape it and bake.

Welcome! Glad that you are here. You will want to get started with the "Your First Loaf, The Simple Way" course. If you already have a starter, you can skip to lesson 3 to learn the method.
Relearning!
Iโ€™ve found Sandra to be the most helpful master baker on YT. I used to bake back when my oldest child, Abigail, was about 3 or 4. She was up on the counter with me watching everything I did and now, 24 years later, she gave me some of HER starter and I am back into baking sourdough! Thereโ€™s a lot more good information on baking nowadays and Sandraโ€™s YT channel has helped me get back into the swing of things!!
