7 Practical Ways to Grow a Community That People Actually Participate In
Many communities struggle to grow for a simple reason. People focus on getting members but forget about creating movement. A healthy community is not built by numbers. It grows because people feel seen, useful, and connected. After years of hosting podcasts, running communities, and working with coaches and spiritual entrepreneurs, several patterns show up again and again. Here are a few that consistently work. 1. Start With a Clear Purpose Communities grow when people immediately understand why they belong there. Not a vague theme. A clear promise. Examples: โ€ข Grow your coaching visibility โ€ข Build a Substack audience โ€ข Launch and monetize a podcast โ€ข Create aligned income from your message Clarity attracts the right people and quietly filters out the wrong ones. 2. Give Members Something to Do Communities die when everyone is just scrolling. Simple daily or weekly activities create momentum. Examples: โ€ข Daily Notes Boost Threads โ€ข Content Feedback Posts โ€ข Weekly Wins โ€ข Collaboration Introductions โ€ข Podcast Guest Opportunities Small actions lead to real relationships. 3. Create a Simple Starting Path New members should never feel lost. A strong community always has a Start Here path that answers: โ€ข Where do I begin? โ€ข What should I do first? โ€ข How do I participate? Structure builds confidence. 4. Celebrate Participation Most people want recognition more than attention. Highlight members who: โ€ข publish something โ€ข launch a podcast โ€ข write their first Substack post โ€ข collaborate with another member Celebration turns quiet members into active contributors. 5. Encourage Collaboration Communities grow faster when members help each other grow. Encourage things like: โ€ข podcast interviewsโ€ข newsletter collaborationsโ€ข co-writing on Substackโ€ข joint workshops Shared visibility multiplies reach. 6. Provide Real Resources A community becomes valuable when members gain access to tools that help them move forward. Examples: โ€ข templates โ€ข guides โ€ข live workshops

@Andrew Jules that's for sure! I went to pick up some water at the grocery store the other day here in Arizonia and was shocked that the shelf was bare - they did have more in the back (I asked) but other than it feels like full on summer here right now (in the 90s F) for me (I'm from Idaho 90s is really hot)
