🎯The One Instinctive Aiming Drill Almost No One Practices (But Should)
Grant Richardson has written many articles in Traditional Bowhunting Magazines and I had the opportunity to speak to him about the "One Instinctive Aiming Drill Almost No One Practices (But Should)"... You don’t need your bow for this. You don’t need a range. All you need is two quiet minutes. The Drill ⬇️ Minute 1: Sit down. Pick ONE spot across the room.Lock in. No movement. No drifting. Minute 2: Raise your bow arm and visualize: Draw → anchor → release → hold. Visualize whatever you shoot - target, 3D, or an animal. The brain doesn’t know the difference between real reps and focused visualization. Why This Works ✅ - Trains focus and concentration - Builds instinctive aiming pathways - Exposes weakness under pressure - Sharpen skills even when you can’t shoot Instinctive shooting is a perishable skill. If you don’t train it, you lose it. This drill keeps you sharp - even off the range. 👇 Question for the group: What breaks your focus the fastest when you’re shooting - movement, noise, or pressure? Let’s talk.
🎯 Arrow Tuning (The Question Grant Get Asked More Than Any Other)
One of the questions Grant get asked more than anything else is about arrow tuning. Not broadheads. Not draw weight. Not gear brands. Arrow tuning. And honestly… I get it. With a traditional bow, tuning can feel mysterious - even frustrating. But here’s the truth most folks don’t hear enough: Good tuning isn’t about gadgets. It's about alignment. 👉 With a stickbow, we don’t tune the bow to the arrow. We tune the arrow to the bow. That mindset changes everything. 🏹 Grant Provided A Few Key Takeaways That Can Instantly Improve Your Setup: • Arrow spine matters more than most realizeSpine isn’t just stiffness - it’s how your arrow reacts with your bow, your draw length, and your release. • Bare-shaft tuning tells the truthNo feathers = no forgiveness. What you see is real arrow flight. • Left / Right misses usually mean spine issues Not bad shooting. • Vertical issues (nock high / low) Often simple fixes: brace height, nocking point, or rest height. • Small changes matterCut arrows slowly. Change point weight intentionally. Don’t rush it. Simple Action Steps You Can Take This Week: ✅ Step back to ~20 yards and shoot a bare shaft ✅ Focus on repeatable form (same anchor, same release) ✅ If your arrow impacts: ➡️ Right → spine is stiff → add point weight ➡️ Left → spine is weak → reduce point weight or shorten arrow slightly ✅ Make one change at a time, then shoot again ✅ Use a dark target face so you can clearly read arrow flight ⚠️ Something Important to Remember: When you fletch an arrow, it forgives small mistakes. Bare shafts don’t. And that’s a good thing. Bare shafts teach you to:• Slow down• Pay attention• Get connected to your equipment That’s what traditional archery is really about. Not rushing. Not shortcuts. Not forcing things to work. 👉 Alignment - between you, the bow, and the arrow. Get that right… and everything else starts to fall into place. Grant put together free training on arrow tuning for you. Watch it here on YouTube: 👉 https://youtu.be/YXZuZ4TqLBk
