Weekly Call Cancelled 🤒 [1/14/2025]
Hey guys! Unfortunately, I'm going to have to cancel tonight's call. I got food poisoning and was down for the count all yesterday. I was able to work today, but I'm going right back to bed after work. If you need me for something specific, please shoot me a DM and I'll look at it first thing tomorrow. Sorry for cancelling, but I can't wait to see you guys next week!

Building a SaaS Start-up using Lovable and Supabase
Check out this amazing video from Greg Isenberg and Ras Mic. They chat about a lot of things while building an app. The two points I took away were 1. Think like a product manager, not a dev 2. IDE integrations are on the way. Lovable currently integrates with Supabase. That integration made it super simple to set up Authentication. I know Clerk was quite simple in Brandon's AI Marketing course, but this takes the biscuit. They built a full note-taking app with a database backend and User authentication in less than an hour, including deploying it to the internet with a click of a button. Mind-blowing, really. The speed of innovation in this space is ridiculous.

so cool, Tom. used Lovable yesterday to build out a moderately complex app and amazed at how quickly Lovable was able to do things. I ran into rate limits after 5 queries so built what I needed from scratch on Cursor. It's super cool. I personally prefer having a bit more control over what I'm building. However, there is so much alpha in tools like Lovable that solve the last mile problem for people to deploy an app in the simplest possible way.
🤖 My Story! 25yo $200k+ Self Taught Developer
My story broken into stages (Last stage is AI 💪)... ① - Self taught (on the job) Full stack Javascript developer. Joined a high-tech ecom startup as 9th employee. I no life'd it as the CTO's right hand man to help grow it to around 40+ employees in 2 years. Helped lead engineering, hiring and proj. management efforts at 20yo. ② - Left dev job and then started 2 companies, one was a Shopify development firm with some partners and the other a music tech startup. At the firm I lead the development division and my team helped publicly traded companies and many small businesses with custom Shopify apps and themes. I did this for just 2 years until I left the firm because of founder differences. 👉 ③ THIS VIDEO - During 2020, I lead a dev teams for various unicorn tech startups and am super thankful I got to learn so much at the time. Again, put head down and worked hard to earn various public recommendations from execs at these tech unicorns (in product, engineering, etc.) ④ - I decided to settle down on the client work and take a director role building/leading a new growth department at different startup altogether. Again a high-tech ecom startup that had bootstrapped to low-8 figures annual rev. Company was doing $70m+ per year from a combination of various company wide efforts and the new growth department I had built in under 2years. ⑤ - NOW (2024): Running an AI dev shop and WORKING my way to the top. NEVER, letting my success get me too comfortable 🤖 When I started I had no degree, no CS background and was told I was a failure, repeatedly. I got that head of marketing/ecom role (growth) when people told me I wasn't a marketer. This story was not to brag. It was to inspire and motivate through showing whats possible! P.S. f**k the lies we are told holding us back about titles and requirements needed! 🚀

Amazing
Cursor - AI Code Editor
Hey coding fam, I hope everyone is doing well! I wanted to see if anyone has used Cursor. There is a lot of buzz about it, some even saying it is the VS Code killer (seems doubtful). But wanted to see if anyone has thoughts on it. With all of the cool things you can do with artifacts and coding, I thought this might be a good additional tool. You can prompt Claude 3.5 Sonnet within Cursor. I thought that was pretty cool. Here is a good video overview. Cheers!

I've been using Cursor since last year but Composer has def 10x'd my productivity. In the past, I used the same workflow as Maksym - GPT/Claude and cursor but relying heavily on Claude. Now I use Cursor for more than just bug fixes or when I run out of Claude requests for the day. Trying out GPT Engineer this week. Will report back on how it goes.
