A Little Collaborative Fun
@Timothy Colomba I hope this is alright... I thought it would be fun to engage in one of those "write the next line" threads. I'll go first: The old man's bushy white eyebrows rose above his blue eyes like two clouds floating by on a summer afternoon. He leaned forward until I could see the pores on his bulbous nose and wrinkled cheeks. "Sonny," he said to me in his southern drawl, "they sell everything from pens to popcorn machines, but if you can't handle a little supernatural shock and awe every now and then I'd stay far far away from that store." ...

Thank you @Jessica Wagner , great idea!!! It wasn’t so much the look of the place but the smell. Like an old library book and also, somehow, cotton candy. With each step, wood creaked underfoot. As light cut through the front bay windows, it appeared as if I were swimming through floating dust. I stepped between two display racks of sun-baked comic books that no one had touched in decades, and walked down the center aisle toward the back. Those who knew only came into this store for one thing. It wasn’t the expired canned goods or any of the other random items used as this space’s costume. You came here for what the woman in the back knew. And there she was behind the counter, waiting.

I use Notes in my phone to capture ideas, Scrivener for writing, ChatGPT for story editing - a second set of eyes, ChatGPT again for editing prose (I've got some nice prompts and systems in place so its never copy and pasting rewrites, it's focused as if working with an editor). I use ProWriting Aid for grammar and technical revisions, and ElevenLabs to listen-to and polish the final draft of each chapter. How about you?

@Jessica Wagner same here where with Dropbox, I can go from Scrivener on my computer to laptop to tablet (if traveling). Seems you've got similar tools but Microsoft based, haha. I've got to look into that keyboard too!
What comes easiest to you in writing?
For me, it's the ideas. I've got tons of ideas and writing that first draft usually is the easiest part. I know that's not the case for everyone though. How about you? Where's your major strength with writing?

@Jessica Wagner I wonder what ways that could translate back to larger projects. I find that the more I’m challenged to cut and simplify, the stronger my work becomes. I bet it becomes a bit of a break too to drop those systems.

@Jessica Wagner that’s a fantastic mindset.
What’s your biggest challenge right now?
For me, it's time and that I'm sort of slow. I'm a slow reader and a slow editor. I really take my time through the process, but that's not always helpful. How about you? What are your biggest stumbling blocks and challenges as a writer?

@Claus Holm *raises glass* here here. Time is really tough. That's good that you've got enough of a cadence to lock in 1000-1500 per session. Funny how writing becomes this mad-dash to the desk to get those words out. When you do, it's so satisfying.

I am an author, obsessed with writing and the process. But I've got no one to talk to about it. I’m looking to change that, for myself and others.
