I have gone through everyone's The Spy videos and am pleased to announce that @Takayuki Watanabe is the winner!!! He stuck to the task at hand of playing for the song, with great feel and energy. Can we all please congratulate Takayuki. I have also decided to hand out a couple of runner-up prizes. Please check your inbox for a message. Thank you all so much for your videos, I can't wait to hand out your next assignment (coming in January).

Thanks so much for all the comments, everyone! I'm really happy!!! I tried to follow the example as closely as I could, especially focusing on the continuous sound in the "dog" part of the basic legato (walk-the-dog). If originality had been required, I probably wouldnโ€™t have won. Everyoneโ€™s playing was amazing, and I really enjoyed listening to all of your performances. Looking forward to the next one! Big thanks to Anthony for giving us this great opportunity!
Get the Gig - 1st Assignment
๐Ÿงน๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ Brush Lab, it's giveaway time ๐ŸŽ‰ I have created an 'assignment' for you which consists of: - Leadsheet/worksheet - Drumless backing track - Lesson video Watch the video to learn about the assignment. Once you're ready, record yourself playing along to the track and upload your video to this thread. The idea is you stick to the task outlined in the video. The first tune is called The Spy and it's a medium swing. You are to play the main groove without any fills or variation, then learn the hits in the shout chorus. I will choose the winner who I think sticks closest to the task and you have until November 30th to upload. Your prize can be one of the following: - Phrasing and Freedom with Brushes - paperback with free worldwide shipping - Comping and Improvising with Brushes - paperback with free worldwide shipping - Beginner's Guide to Big Band Drumming - paperback with free worldwide shipping - 30 minute online lesson with me Good luck, and I look forward to watching your entries!

@Simon Schwarzenbach Thanks for the comment, it really makes me happy! The foot sound on the Zildjian Low Volume hi-hat is surprisingly loud, and a lighter hi-hat is a lot easier to control.

@Anthony Stanislavski Thanks for the great assignment. A song of this length is just right.

Welcome! Introduce yourself + share a pic of your favourite snare ๐Ÿฅ
Let's get to know each other! Comment below sharing where you are in the world, a photo of your favourite snare drum, and something you like to do for fun. ๐Ÿ˜Š I'll go first - I live in Melbourne Australia, my favourite snare is the Gretsch 2mm Copper 14x5 (with Kentville Kangaroo Head) and I love long-distance running ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Konnichiwa! I'm Takayuki Watanabe from Gifu, Japan. My favourite snare is the Ludwig 14x5 Bronze Phonic Hammered with Canopus Vintage Snare Wire. Iโ€™m really into Bill Stewart. (Though unlike him, I play brushes with a regular grip.)
