This week I walked past a school and saw something that stopped me. Painted lines on the ground. Straight lines, so the kids would know exactly where to stand while they waited for school to start. One behind the other. I’ll be honest, it bothered me, because I know where that comes from. Bells that tell you when to move. Desks in rows. Raise your hand to talk. Raise your hand to use the bathroom. Line up for lunch. That system was built for the factory days. It was built to make good employees. Stay in line. Do what you’re told. Don’t ask questions. Here’s the problem. When we do that long enough, we stop being curious. We stop exploring. We start to believe the way things are is the way they have to stay. I know, because I lived it. I worked on Wall Street. I saved every penny. I did everything I was “supposed” to do and if I had kept standing in that line, I never would have walked away from my paycheck to build something of my own with Nadia. I wouldn’t be here writing you. What changed? I got curious. I started asking, “Is this really the only way?” So here’s my challenge for you this week. Look at the things you do just because “that’s how it’s always been done.” Then ask yourself: ✔️ Does this still serve me? ✔️ Has anything changed? ✔️ Is there a better way? Maybe it’s buying things on credit. Maybe it’s waiting until 65 to retire. Maybe it’s a money belief you picked up as a kid and never questioned. You don’t know what you don’t know until you go looking. Curiosity is what gets you looking. When you question an old idea, you just might find a better answer to a problem you thought you were stuck with. That’s what I want for my children and it’s what I want for you.
