She came into this world this February, 23 days early, and she spent over 50 days in the NICU fighting battles most people will never understand. My wife and I lived in that hospital. Sleepless nights. Not knowing what was wrong. Watching monitors. Accelerated heart rates. Desaturation events. Alarms going off at 3am. It was one of the scariest experiences of our lives. After a long journey, we finally found out she has a rare condition called Silver-Russell Syndrome. It affects her growth, her feeding, development, and more unforeseens that will unfold with time. The first few months of her life were filled with uncertainty, fear, and a lot of prayers. I'm not sharing this for sympathy. I'm sharing it because it changed everything for me. Before Zara, I was building because I wanted success. After Zara, I'm building because I have to. For her. For my wife. For the life I want to give them. 50+ days in the NICU taught me that tomorrow isn't promised. That the things we put off "until we're ready" might never happen if we keep waiting.
