I am in the midst of climbing out of my most recent valley, but i am now clear of the flood zone. This all may seem like TMI, but it’s good for me to get it out and own the ups and the downs now that I’m not in the middle of it all. Here we go - Enjoy the ride…
Hi, I’m Evan - Age 36 - Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas, USA. I had a pretty great first 30 years of life. Got good grades, picked an awesome location for college, got good degrees, had a 10yr+ career with lots of lateral growth for a CRM Agency, Traveled to 48 States and all over Scandinavia / Northern Europe, fell in love a couple times (1st didn’t want kids - Boo, 2nd became my longest friend and is my sons mom), moved to the country, bought a starter home, began building the DIY dream house from scratch, almost got married, and was loving life at peak self-actualization. Just when I was reaching my last life goal (the child I’ve wanted since I was 4) everything quickly fell apart.
COVID hit and life began to unravel. We were constrained to the several acres out in the country that needed to be maintained - Isolated from friends and family. I was juggling Freelance work, managing high profile client projects in my career, and caring for my pregnant partner. Needless to say, I had very Low work/life balance and too much was never enough for anyone. I cracked.
Unbeknownst to me, at the same time my brother was slowly losing his grip on reality to ketamine addiction. This along with everything else crazy going on in the world created a divide in my attention and between my friends, family, and relationship. Against the wishes of my fiancé, I chose to save my brother by returning to the city to intervene and have him committed to a mental hospital, but as a result, I lost her trust and my support network. This led to me gaining guardianship of my newborn son and becoming a solo parent. Continuously overwhelmed, my reliability and credibility begin to slip and chose to quit my Job during the post-COVID return to office debacle in July 2023.
Fast forward through the sleep depravity, depression and endless diaper changes. Began soul searching and returning to my roots as one who is passionate about parenting, education, community, strategic life design, and game design. I decided that I wanted to create the brand “Waygami,” a blending of the concepts of Pathfinding/Wayfinding and Origami / Gamification, to provide products and services in the then non-existent category of Life Gamification / Life Game Design. I wrote the unpublished gamers guide to life and gave away my amassed fortune to various fake and real gurus in exchange for shiny objects and learning the many aspects of entrepreneurship.
I developed and led a couple gamified life coaching cohorts. Discovered and Mastered Notion to develop a prototype for my life gaming platform. Found my tribe of life game designers and passionate Notion Wizards from around the globe on Skool and Discord. Became a member or admin of many communities and became a Solutions Architect for a small group of Service Providers based around Notion. Partnered with Game of Life & Team Unity Skool Group Owner to finish building out the gamified strategic life and business planning road. Currently working on that project. Joined Admins Mastermind, Operators, and now Big Brain club.
Desired Future State:
I've returned to my former level of self-confidence and faculties. I've figured out how to leverage my diverse skillset and transform it into entrepreneurial success. My son has climbed the hill with me and stands atop my shoulders as we look out over the brand of Waygami that we've built on the hillside below where others continue to level up and play the game of life. Outstretched ahead is the Productive Path that leads toward our Shared Horizons Network of small business and Skool community service providers who work in tandem. I’ve found my tribe and helped others find theirs. Aiden and I live debt free and move out of Texas where he has discovered his passions and closes in on his purpose through the nontraditional education system that he has received by playing our games and living life by design. We support one another until parting paths, and I finish my game out to ascend to grand wizard status by unlocking and completing the quests that I was meant to fulfill - to transform the platitude of playing the game of life and the egregious misuses of gamification of the past into a platform that improves self-awareness, personal development, secure data management, and strategic life planning for lifelong learners as a means of raising our collective consciousness and offering an alternative route within education.
Why:
Even when I thought I had everything, I felt like life was empty and shallow. Midlife crises shouldn’t just be the norm. The education system is broken, and I want my child to start working towards a fulfilling life from the beginning. I want to take what I’ve learned on this journey and create something better for future generations by doing what I love. Learning, Teaching, Playing, Architecting, and Solving Problems.
Fears:
That my dreams are unrealistic. That playing the game of life is a platitude for a reason. That no one really wants this thing that I feel so passionate about. That I can't monetize it well enough to continue pursuing it. That my psyche doesn’t heal well enough for me to stay focused and accomplish the things that I put my mind to. That something happens to me before Aiden grows up. That I give up.
