To the First and Last (Breath)
You are the invisible thread,
the silent architect of every "Yes" I’ve ever spoken.
Before I had a name, I had You.
Before I had a dream, You were already building the fire.
I want to apologize for the years I took You for granted,
treating You like a common thing,
forgetting that You are the very signature of the Divine
moving in and out of my lungs.
When my joy went quiet, You did not.
When the world grew heavy, You remained light.
You are the rhythm of my resilience;
the steady, rising proof that I am not finished yet.
Thank You for the gasps of wonder,
Thank You for the sighs of relief,
and even for the ragged, shallow draws of air
taken in the dark of the night.
Every second of my life, You have been the guest
who never left the room.
I cherish You now, not as a reflex,
but as a choice.
With You, I have everything.
Without You, I am but dust.
I am breathing.
Therefore, I am a miracle.
"Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." — Genesis 2:7
